Finding "DECENT" RV RESORTS ----- a little tough.

We've been Rv'ing 24-7 for about 2 and a half years now and have discovered that all the ads on the internet advertising "GREAT RV RESORTS" .... are not dependable.

Recently, we though it would be nice to spend a winter in Palm Springs Ca and started investigating the local RV Resorts there..... whew!

Dirty, sour staff attitudes, bad golf courses, dirty swimming pools, cramped slots.... so on so on...

We have since decided to just go with the 'known,' i.e. places where we have friends, or places where our friends have stayed. It is truly distressing to become (slowly) aware of the fact that most RV RESORTS are rundown, dirty, and generally UNACCEPTABLE - irregardless of the 'fancy, nice looking, shiny new ads' that you see on the internet.

Main reason for this post is to advise everyone to REALLY CHECKOUT a RV Resort before deciding to head there for the winter/summer.

Another reason is to ask if anyone can "Recommend" a nice (Winter) RV Resort in Arizona or California.

By 'nice' .... I think most people will know what I mean.

Thanks in advance.

I just messaged my sister in law who lives in Southern Cali and she laughed and said she cant recommend a single one. I will say neither of us like "HOA" camping. Everyone in our family bought our rv's to get away from people.

We generally use http://www.rvparkreviews.com/ to find sites and hope that peoples reviews are somewhat believable. There are several nice parks in the Valley that I would consider but it mostly depends how much you want to spend.

Thanks for the link - I'll check it out. The 'personal' reveiws I kind of believe (especially if they are recent) .. but then again I know how fast 'things change' when it comes to these resorts. I'm beginning to be turned completely off with resorts.

thanks again

LOL.. I'm beginning to agree with your sis-in-law and bring my 'thinking' around to yours.

Thanks!

"Nice" - is in the eye of the beholder. However based on your "not nice" words earlier in your post - we have chosen Southern California, near El Centro NAF.

I consider Rio Bend RV and Golf Resort nice, balance of cost, service and facilities. Plus a bit warmer in winter than AZ (Valley area). I personally like it as it is a working community (50K people) and I can ride outside the resort through the produce fields and not be stuck inside a concrete jungle of resort after resort and traffic.

If you want more info, PM me. There is a referral program, so let them know I sent you and I'll pass along the $50 buck gift certificate to you......

PS - NAF El Centro does have jets and chopper noise (Blue Angels winter here) so that is one downside to some people; for me I grew up near an air force base so I don't mind the activity.

RV Parky and Allstays Camp and RV have great smartphone apps and so far we have found them to be pretty accurate. They help us as we are planning our travels.

Rio Bend RV and Golf Resort monthly rates are reasonable and are maybe just $100 a month higher then our Florida resort, golf course is prier but the monthly price might help with that. Looking through the pictures of the resort the RV sites look decent with shrubs dividing them and above average when it comes to size. To me it's a great place and I have stayed in a lot that aren't so great this is not
one of them.

We workkamped at Shadow Hills Resort in Indio back in 2009. It's a pretty nice place with a very nice pool and hot tub area. I think the owners are currently managing the resort. The only thing at the time that was not the greatest was the cracking concrete on many sites. I don't know how many have been re surfaced.

When I see a campground billed as a "Resort" I find them typically to being closer to "Last Resort" short of staying in a Wally World Parking lot. Perhaps it's just a heighten expectation because they call it a resort. Anyway I agree a good resort seem hard to find.

I checked the link out - liked what I saw - and called them. The way it works (according to the girl in the office) is "if somone refers you and you rent a spot for 3 months then you get the 4th month free, which is not a bad deal at all "for us" but what about the person who referred us? The girl had no idea if you would get anything and said she would get back to me which I thought was a little odd.

Another 'odd' thing was that "nowhere" on the link/site did I find pictures of the actual RV sites. The "girl" assured me that they were nice - said they were all 'gravel' which is kinda ok .... but still ... I hate to drive 1500 miles, rent a site for 3 months - "without" knowing what the RV sites look like. She told me could e-mail me some pictures but it would have to be next week cause she was so busy....

Overall, it looks like a great place to spend the winter and there were some 'great' testimonials on the site, plus your recomendation and that of another person who commented here to me ... so... I'm thinking this place has some real potential, although I was somewhat disappointed to find out that the only casinos they have are 'truck stop/beer joint casinos cause me and the wife 'love' the casinos. We spent 2 months in Vegas (at the AFB RV Park) last year and loved it. Probably should of stayed intstead of going to South Texas which we both hated.

I don't think the jet/chopper activity will be a problem for us since we have spent a lot of time at AFB Rv Parks across the country.

So... the only downside I see right now is the lack of major casinos and the fact that we have no pictures of the actual Rv sites... but like I said it has potential and we appreciate your input. Thanks a bunch!!

Appreciate your recomendation and it does have 'potential' ... as I was telling another guy here (who also recommended it).... you can read my comment to him to find out my thinking on it for the moment.

Really appreciate your comment/recomendation. Thanks!!

Yeah... sad to say that's what it usually is (Last Resort lol) ... probably why we have spent so much time at military Rv parks...... we were very disappointed in South Texas last winter. Thanks for the comment!

We have gone up to Borrego Springs for golf a couple of times from Rio Bend - it is a day trip. Tuesdays are seniors day - 30 bucks for 18 including cart.... Their greens were immaculate. Only problem with staying there is that it is 90 minutes away from the closest shopping (Palm Springs, or El Centro.

DW the kids and I full time at the KOA in San Diego. Although currently we are slumming it up on the beach at fiddlers cove (navy RV park).

If you are looking for military campgrounds try dodlodging.net sometimes there are pics of the campgrounds.
