Florida RV Parks

We are considering spending the month of January in Florida to avoid the Missouri ice and snow. We would appreciate suggestions on where to go. We prefer the Gulf side. Please send me info and websites if available. You can send by forum or e-mail to mlj2002maj2002@yahoo.com.

We live in Sarasota so these are our favorites close to home. All MUST be done soon as January is primte time:

2. http://www.floridastateparks.org/myakkariver/default.cfm. Note new sites that will be available soon: http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20100719/ARTICLE/7191046?tc=ar

3. http://www.scgov.net/turtlebeachcampground/default.asp. On the beach.

4. http://www.floridastateparks.org/oscarscherer/default.cfm. State park but in town.

5. http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/05_ft_desoto.htm. Up the road in Pinellas County. We'll be there next week. Check our blog for pictures.

Good luck...book early.

I know this is an old post... but we looked and found only two COE parks in all of FL. :( And they only let you stay for 2 weeks, if they have the space.

There is one called Ortona, and Franklin, one at Saint Lucy. I have stayed at all of them, they are real nice but HARD to get into.

I am doing my "homework", which is specifically why I asked about parks....I am realizing that not ALL parks are listed in some of the major publications, either in print or on line when you search. Some other posts here have offered parks I have not seen before, so I can go check those out before making my own decision. I figure we should all be in this to help one other out.

Thanks for the recommendation. Worth checking out. At least it appears that the sites are rather large and not crammed in like some of the others we have seen.

I agree with Sailor, this is part of doing the "homework". Recommendations from fellow RV'ers is a good way to get started. Personally, I use streets & trips or rvpark reviews to search and locate. Rvpark reviews has links to websites and sat images. You can always get better images through google to get an idea of site size, and what type of trailers are in the park. We've picked a few parks this way and it works for us but hearing from other RVers helps a lot.

Florida has always been a winter RV destination. Don't know how accurate I am but my experience is that alot of the parks we have stayed at over the years were built before 40' Fifthwheels and Motorhomes with quad slides. They can be tight and some a challenge to get your rv into the lot. But you can be surprised, once you get settled you meet some great people and have a great time.
Vacation type cabins in the campgrounds provides income in the slow season and accomodates those who had RV's in the past but are no longer able to do it but can drive and still enjoy the campground.
