Found Something on AC Filter

Our bedroom AC is making an odd noise when the fan kicks on and I was trying to investigate. It almost sounds like a high-pitched whistling noise. I thought some of the tape might have come loose so I took off the cover for the filter and found this sitting on the filter material.

Any idea what it could be from? It is hard to the touch but I can pull it apart with my fingers.

I will be taking the cover off on the rood tomorrow to continue to investigate the sound as all the tape seemed ok.

It looks like it was some kind of insulation that has broken free. After taking the cover off, they used this to seal some of spaces in the styrofoam. Not sure if I should touch up the holes or not.

As far as the sound, I am pretty sure it’s the fan shaft. Does anyone know the proper lubricant I should use? I looked in the manual and it doesn’t have any info. It’s a GE model.

A little websearching on the subject indicated that in 1 Oil worked pretty good.
