GE Air Conditioners

I have a Mallard 335 that I bought new in July of 2021. Five months into ownership, the main air conditioner failed (GE 13.5K BTU). After the lengthy process of the warranty claim through Camping World, the unit was replaced with the same size and model. Well, five months after the new unit was installed, it has failed. I reached out to Heartland to see if I could replace the GE with another brand. The short answer was no because it was the vendor, GE, who warranted the product. I reached out to GE and found out that their units are distributed by a group called Midwest Sales and Service. I emailed them and got a response the very next day. Their units are warranted for 2 years (Camping World avoided telling me, but I should have known) and the gentleman at MWSS is working to get a mobile tech to install a new one so I don't have to deal with Camping World again. The problem of the GE air conditioners isn't really solved and I won't really trust a new one but if I continue to get replacements, I'll go down that road. Has anybody else had problems with GE A/Cs?

Service after the sale is hard to find. Myself and three family have purchased campers and trailers within the past few years and major problems were solved with only with threats to request law enforcement. I have been waiting two years for service and have not receive any.

We have a 2021 Bighorn Traveler with two GE air conditioner units. (a 15,000 and a 13.500 b.t.u.). We've only used it less than three weeks, but no problems so far. Don't know exactly what this means, but when I went to purchase A/C silencers from Wack-O, I discovered that the same silencer that fits the GE units also fits Domestic units.

The WackO Products DA100 is an air conditioner silencer kit that allows you to run your RV A/C unit without all the noise. Never try listening to your TV over your air conditioner or being kept awake by the unbearable noise ever again.

You know that GE appliances is no longer affiliated with General Electric. They were bought out by Haier (Chinese) company in 2016. Haier bought the rights to the long established, respected, GE Appliances name.

Here is an announcement from Midwest Sales and Service (best previously known in the RV world as the distributor for the Apollo halftime microwave-convection ovens) about them becoming the exclusive distributor for "GE" RV air conditioners:

As a retired appliance repair tech, I am familiar with Haier products and I wouldn't spend my $ on them.

I have a 2021 Keystone Springdale 298BH that I bought new in July 2021. It came with a a GE 13.5K BTU AC. It worked fine for the remainder of the summer but the following year it didn't cool the first time I tried it which was in May of 2022. It was replaced under the 1 year Keystone warranty. This one failed this past Labor Day weekend and I took it to the shop today and was told it was low on freeon and would have to be replaced. The dealer is going to try to get the extended warranty company to replace it with a Coleman Mach given that this will be my 3rd AC unit in 3 years.

That silencer kit certainly won't work with any of the Dometic A/C units I've ever seen installed on a Heartland product. It looks like their return air filter might work, but I don't see that as a noise abatement product.

I have one added to my Dometic Brisk Air II air conditioner that was original to my Bighorn. It is pricey for what it is, but does indeed reduce the air conditioner noise by about 50%. I would check out the Wacko Products website again, or do a websearch for comments on the product.

I own a rv repair shop. There was a batch of GE AC that they had a lot of problems with. The newer ones are bullet proof.

What is failing on the air conditioners? Or rather what are the symptoms? Does the compressor come on, fan doesn't run, etc?

We have a 2022 Heartland Elkridge 32RK. The two ac units went out within the first 6 months. They replaced both. Those both went out within 3 months, AGAIN. GE offered to replace again with newer models. One went out less than 3 months. We contacted GE again. This time offered to just give us retail value for both and wash their hands of it. We are wanting to go to Recpro and see if they are better. ISNT THIS CRAZY!! and there is no " Lemon Law" for RVs

This probably wont help you unless you are near the San Diego area, but in my online research on RV air conditioners I found a servicer in the Miramar area that listed AC unit recharging on their website: Here is their page on air conditioner services:

We own a 2021 keystone Bullet Ultra Lite and it came with GE units. Within the first 8 months the main unit failed and it was replaced under warranty. Within 6 months the new unit failed and was also replaced under warranty. We are on the third unit and it didn't last 5 months. I'm a little disenchanted with GE units. Fortunately we purchased the extended warranty for 7 years so I guess we will just keep replacing the units! Our dealership contacted Keystone and they didn't offer a solution. May just shop for a different manufacturer when we upgrade next.
