Good Sam Campgrounds can be a little greedy at times

There is a Good Sams RV park in Columbia MO that is well placed for a stop when we travel.
Its a great place no complaints till I was informed about a price increase for the Solar Eclipse 8/21/17
Myself and two others made reservations over 5 months ago for three days and it was easy.
I was just there a couple days ago and was confirming the reservations when I was told they were raising there rates for the day befor, day of and day after the eclipse .
I could see maybe doubling the rate but $100/$150/$100 seems just a little steep and out of place.
I informed the guy in the office about my concerns .
One of the three in our group has cancelled and we will probly do the same soon.
i guess when the sun goes dark it makes people greedy;-)
Just my two cents

I would not go to that park again if it was the last RV park on earth !! We are in an RV park on the gulf side in Florida, our owner today told my wife who works in the office that if anyone coming over from the East coast of Florida to escape the storm to give them a steep discount, now that's the kind of park I would wanna patronize !! JMHO There is price gougeing going on all ready, reports of 6 dollars a gallon of gas and 30 dollars for a case of bottled water !!

It's supply and demand. When ammo gets scarce - My prices go up to follow the trend.

What someone paid for it is immaterial - The markets change constantly change - Up and down.

My grandfather (WWII vet) always used to tell us:

"Buy it before you need it or it will always cost you more."

We've used this park in the past, but have never experienced the rate being hiked. In fact, they have offered to give me the weekly rate even though I was staying only 6 nights, since it was less than paying the daily rate. The park recently changed ownership and my experience was with the previous owners. There's a state park (Finger Lakes) north a few miles on 63 that might be an alternative for you. Downside is sites are only 30 amp with no water or sewer hookups. Depending on your rig, 30 amp might not work for AC in MO in August.

We are spending the eclipse at Duck Creek in Paducah KY. Hope they don't jack the prices up on us. The point of longest duration of totality is near Hopkinsville KY.
There is a really good interactive Google Earth map of the path of eclipse so you can find places to view.

Just like the Coushatta Casino (Kinder, LA) Red Shoes RV Resort. Summertime is $65 a night and winter is $25 a night. There is a waterpark at the casino in the summer. Also whenever there is a concert the rates (even in the winter) go up to $65-$75 a night. Guess it is the old story of supply and demand.

Maybe I am seeing this a little different. I think we all know that rates will get hiked up in a special event or for peak seasons. I see the same problem the OP had. He wasn't making reservations and griping about the hiked rate- he had MADE his reservations months ago and was quoted a rate. Now, the possibly new owners are raising the rates on existing reservations. Nope- don't like it one bit.

I wouldn't expect the Corps of Engineers park cited in one of the posts to change rates.

Moved on to the next thing...

But chances are it has already been booked out for months.

Or at least those wanting to get in are already sitting on the website with the form filled out with their finger on the 'enter' button just waiting for the instant that reservations open up for those parks.

I know a lot of people who have booked places in Wyoming and Nebraska, and they have all told me that they are being charged at least double or more for the time period of this solar event.
