Greetings Colorado Chapter....route advice????

We are working on a plan to spend a month in CO. next year...Sept 3 to Oct. 8th.

We are planning on using each of our stops as base camps to explore the area and explore the areas we would rather not tow through. We will be coming in from the great lakes area on 76 and then 34 to Estes Park....and leaving the state after our last stop in Colorado Springs. The intent was to be a little more north in the warmer days, but we know we have some higher mountain passes to deal with so we are looking for route guidance...

Since we don't know the roads, it seems prudent to ask before we get in a bind!

So...how doe this route look towing a heavy fifth wheel.

1. Estees Park to Buena Vista via Rte 36,70 and 285;

2. Buena Vista to Rifle Gap SP via 24 and 70;

3. Rifle Gap to Ridgeway SP via 70, 141, 50 and 550;

4. Ridgeway SP to Cortez/Mesa Verde KOA via 50, 62 and 145;

5. Cortez to Durango via 160;

6. Durango to Alamosa via 160;

7. Alamosa to Colorado Springs via 160 to 25.

I know it's alot to look at...so thanks in advance! Any input greatly appreciated. We have towed through Utah, Montana etc and are comfortable with most everything except steep drops with no guardrails while towing...both of us are towing 35' fifth wheels behind 3500 diesel trucks so power and braking should be sufficient.
Thanks for any guidance. We understand that there is a rally out that way and are hoping it will be while we are in the area!??

Best Regards...NH Celt

Your plan looks good and you shouldn't have any problems. Our CO chapter rally is at Mancos Sept 14-17. The rally is at Ancient Cedars Resort which is just across the road from the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park. We would love to have you attend.

Thanks so much for your guidance, and the invite. We will be up around rifle gap at that point so we will miss the rally....but keep an eye out for the NH tags and we'll be looking for those Heartlands!!!

Rifle Gap is an awesome place . . .

That is where we attended our second Colorado HOC Rally back in September of 2014.

You are going to love it there!

Plus, you'll be here in the middle of the fall colors, which is much different than what you are used to back east, but awesome none the less!

COTRIP.ORG to check your routes as you get closer. As of right now US 34 between Loveland and Estes Park is closed! This is for road repairs from the flood 3 years ago.
