hand cranking slides

The guy next door to me has just had the devils own time trying to get his large living room slide
in. It has occurred to me that should the need arise I would be in trouble as I do not know where
to crank.

I have a 2011 3670.

This subject did come up some time ago and the idea was to rotate the bar that runs between the geared rollers. Probably have to use something like a open-end wrench to do it and bring your lunch down there with you. May even help to have someone pushing against the slide as you crank it. There is no manual crank rod/port to do that on our models.

Another possible method may be to rig a come-along strap between the end of the slide hardware and the frame and pull it in that way.

If it's not a ram failure or leak and maybe just the hydraulic pump motor, then you only need to remove the cover on the end of the motor, insert a 1/4" hex bit into the orifice and drive it with an electric drill. May need an extension to reach it from inside the basement, but that technique is covered in the Lippert manual on hydraulic slides. Just in case, I have the fittings to do that in my toolbox.

I had the bolt that holds the pneumatic ram onto the frame fall off my new 2012 Bighorn 3070RL. It prevented us from opening our off-door slide (kitchen). Luckly we had two frozen dinners in the freezer since we couldn't get into the refer (We have the island). I didn't know the problem at the time and drove home from Cherry Hill Campground in Maryland to RI not knowing that basically the slide was unsecured. Thankfully it never moved out. I fixed the problem myself when I got home (Dealer 4 hour drive). I really need to get under the slides and figure out how to secure them should this happen again. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

My guess would be to use ratchet straps between the hardware at the end of the rams and the underside of the frame. Might have to notch the coroplast to get the hook on the beam flange. The orange straps they sell at HD are rated for 1500 lbs., so they should do the job in an emergency. I keep some in my truck just for tying down lumber, etc., when using the truck as a truck.

I was cruising down the highway and when I looked in the mirror I noticed that my slides were not in the same place I left them.
I left them in, and they were coming out.
Pulled into a rest area and used ratchet straps.
Hooked one hook to the end cap on the ram and the other hook to the cross shaft end.
We continued to travel with it like that for about a month.
Oh and I cut the straps down to about two feet in length.

Peace

Have you thought about what you think might be causing the slide movement? I wonder if it's loosing pressure somewhere and the pneumatic fluid isn't holding the pistons anymore. That seems to be the only thing I can think of but my knowledge of pneumatic systems like ours is limited. Good luck and keep us posted on what you learn and how you fix it.

Westwind, dunno who you are asking about the slide movement, but in my case I had a bad cylinder.
It has since been replaced.
I kept traveling with it that way because I didn't want any downtime.
It was just a minor inconvenience, not a show stopper.

Peace
Dave
