I'm trying to decide between a manual and automatic transmission for a '14 Ram 3500 Diesel DRW. The maximum safe towing capacity of the standard will help me make my decision. The Max Towing Capacity for my desired vehicle is 17,410. But from what I understand by reading other posts in this forum, you can't always rely on that simple number.
So....here are the other numbers I could collect from Dodge. Can others chime in with what I could consider my max towing capacity for a fifth wheel. Then...once I have this number, should I look at the dry weights of the trailers I'm considering and add 2000 lbs for safe measure. If this number is less than the max towing capacity, I should be fine, right?
TV Specifications
-------------------
GVWR: 14,000
Curb Weight: 8,424
Front Axel Weight: 4,957
Rear Axel Weight: 3,467
GAWR Front: 6,000
GAWR Rear: 9,750
GCWR: 26,000
Payload: 5,580
Max Trailer Weight: 17,410
Assume 5 Passengers totaling: 850
Assuming hitch weight of: 200
THANK YOU!!
