Hot air coming in in torque 371

We’re having a heck of a time with staying cool in GA heat! There seems to be a good bit of heat coming in from this particular grate- can anyone tell me if it’s possible to cover this area without causing issues to the wiring behind it?

I have no clue what this is, but can I cover it to prevent the heat from coming in? It’s blowing a lot of heat in and it’s just so dang hot in here! IMG_7673.jpeg

That's the cold air return for the furnace.
I put a piece of cardboard behind mine. I actually did it in winter because of cold air coming in.

Peace

it's coming in via the pass thought compartment, I keep those compartment doors closed & that helps. If you decide to cover that make sure the converter has air flow to keep it cool.
