Houston to Seattle?

I don't think I-10 runs into I-40, it runs out through el paso, across NM, into AZ and then CA. This time of year, I would follow I-10 to Blythe , Ca , then take US 95 N to I-40 at Needles , Ca , then I-40 W to Barstow , Ca , Then Ca 58 across to Bakersfield , Ca and on to Button willow , Ca at I-5 , Then continue up I-5 to Washington. The pull from Needles up to South Pass , is about the hardest one on this route. One pretty good pull on hwy 58 at Tehachapi , Ca. Not a bad trip, and quite scenic for this time of year. Hello Drew. If you get poor towing mileage (as I do with my International Towmaster by Wiers) you may be concerned with the additional miles going by way of Hwy 58. It's only about 50 miles further than going right into the LA area on I-10 and connecting with I-5 but hey... 50 miles translates into an extra $25 - $30 for me! I don't really like the LA traffic but if you plan around rush hours you might enjoy seeing all the smog.

Actually, 58 is much improved. There is a loop around Mojave, so ya don't have to go through town any more. The difference in going on to La , is around 62 miles , but you have three times the traffic , and more turns and hills to deal with. You will have to make the final decision on the route, just be safe and take the route you feel best with. Have a Blessed day and a safe trip. God bless ya, Al & Dee Weaver
One doesn't have to go thru LA using I10. Go thru Blythe and on into the Inland Empire. Take the 215 to the 15 and up the Cajon Pass and left on 395 to 58 at 4 corners or Craemer Jct, whatever one calls it. This cuts out LA and the arm pit of the world, Needles. Fuel at the FlyingJ at the river just before getting into CA. It'll save you the CA taxes. This is the most direct route and many of us that winter on the river or Quartzite take this route. Knocks about "who knows" off the time going thru LA.

I've done Gary's route and it works well. If your not traveling until April, you can also just continue up 395 to Reno and then cut over to I5 on 44 & 89 through Susanville and McCloud. A much prettier drive than I5.
This is the route that we took back in November when traveling from Lake Tahoe to College Station for the A&M/T.U. game to tailgate. I would defiantely recomend this route, although instead of I-5 we did 99 through CA. Essentially this would like traveling to Dallas, you can either use 45 straight through or take 6 to Waco then on to Dallas......The 99 route through CA goes through more small towns and such. If your on a time crunch run I-5.
I would highly recommend this route as a more scenic but more milage and more fuel route. But, you go through Owens Valley in the Bishop area which is stunning as the road is about 4500' elev. and the surround peaks are all 12000'+. You could even then take a tour up to Lake Tahoe and do some gambling at the old Sinatra days Tahoe casinos.
