I thought I had a bad switch....

The last couple of weeks, the ceiling lights in our BH 3670 would either flicker when we turned them on or be very hard to get to come on.

Yesterday, they stopped coming on all together. I figured it was a bad switch. When I took the panel off to test the switch, I found this at the connection to the switch.

Switch was fine, but the wire had almost completely melted off. Not good.

I cut off the bad part, put on a new piece to connect to the switch, but I'm worried that I'm just enabling a fire.

Thoughts, anyone?

We had something similar a few years ago. We had 5 dual pancake lights on that one switch. We changed all the bulbs to LED so the current demand would not be so high.

Bob, there is a good chance that the connector was loose which will generate a lot of heat.

Bernie, the connection was on pretty solidly.

I just can't figure out why a fuse wouldn't have gone before a wire got so hot it melted.
