II has been a long time since I traveled that road, and Yes their are a few switchbacks and steep grades. But, it's a very pretty drive. Shouldn't be a problem if you can take your time.
Never been to Lewiston, but the road from Lewiston to Missoula (12) is great. We rode in a 40' bus coming out of a 6 day rafting trip on the Selway. There is a RV park in Lowell, ID that I really want to get back to. I could spend a couple weeks there no problem.
We do the drive from Pocatello, Id to Missoula, Mt twice a year. It's a very easy drive. If you do go this way stop at the School House in Dell, Mt for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. Fabulous food.
Tom, I like to take Hwy 55 north to New Meadows where it connects with Hwy 95 which takes you all the way to Lewiston. 55 is very scenic. You won't have any problems taking this route. Several years ago there were numerous steep switchbacks but they have been replaced with easy pulls. Have a great time.
