Igloo roto-molded cooler at Costco

Stopped at Costco to get dog food and a few other items and say that they were selling 4 Igloo coolers. One of which was a 70 quart root-molded extreme cooler. I checked out because the price was only $199.00. The walls did not seem as thick as the ones I own, it would compare to an ORCA, Pelican, or Yeti and that price would amount to a savings of 40% or more. I have no idea how good they would work and I have never even seen them before but a 70 quart Orca would be around $360 and Yeti would be over $400.00 easy.

It was listed as an Igloo 70 quart Sportsman root-molded cooler

I remember watching a YouTube video of some cooler tests. At this link, the Igloo (smaller version) was reviewed and it tested very well. Might be worth saving $250!

I have a few Yeti's in differant sizes of tundra and a hopper and have looked at the other manufacturers but never was impressed enough to save the extra $$. Yeti coolers have spawned a slew of clones at much cheaper prices in the last few years, yet my buddy who is a yeti dealer says he sells more and more coolers every month. That tells me the competition isn't up to par. I'm not saying there not worth the money and very functional though. Yeti is an expensive cooler but I've never regretted spending the money on something that should last a VERY long time.

You may want to look at these. They are pretty much identical to the Yeti coolers. The 65 Quart is $199.99 with free shipping.

The link provided above is the same cooler I saw but the price was only $199 in the store. I swear by these extreme coolers. I own 3 of the hard sided ones plus we picked up a Yeti Hopper 30 which is an airtight, leakproof soft sided cooler. For those that boondock or dry camp, these extreme coolers are a must. I believe that the best result are achieved if you prep the coolers by icing them down for 2 days before you actually pack them. I own 2 ORCA coolers which are 100% American made and just a little cheaper than the Yeti brand which was the first in the business. The older ones were american made but they have since moved production out of America. I know that these things are expensive but we cut down on the amount of ice so much that they will end up saving us money in the long run. Plus for those longer trips we pack one with freezer items that don't fit in the freezer and they will stay frozen for days. This means that we can take more items from home and avoid shopping while on trips. So we save more money by taking items bought on sale and plucked from our deep freezer at home. I figured that some members might take the plunge for $200 that wouldn't even think about the other brands.

I feel like Rip VanWinkle...when did coolers become so dad-burn expensive! Worse yet, folks are justifying what a great value they are. Yes, getting old, I guess. Gotta go now, I'm off to by an expensive cooler. The drain valve on my cheap Igloo broke.

You can get a replacement drain and save $300

Love my Yeti hard side and soft side coolers. I also have a Pelican cooler that works real well. Only problem is that it weigh a ton!
