Gang:
I came across this on the Sears.com website this morning. It's only $19.99. It will need a separate power source (9 volt battery and switch), but is small, should snap into the thin wood of the switch control center, and includes a sensing shunt resistor to wire in series with the positive lead to your battery. The only drawback I could see if that the maximum measured current is 50 amps, and a lot of our chargers put out up to 60 amps; but it is very rare the converters are putting out full current, and the meter should just indicate an overrange until the current gets under 50 amps.

I bought three of these digital meters. This model is only 12 voltage, but the seller also has ammeter and shunts available.

I used an electrical junction box and a cover plate with a rectangular opening (Decora series) to house the meter. Also added a Radio Shack push button on off switch.
One of the meters is mounted on the power panel in the genny compartment. Works good and is right on compared to my Fluke meter.

Duane:
Here is the description from the title on the link: [h=1]Combo Panel Amp Meter Voltmeter with Shunt[/h]

That says to me that it is a COMBO and measures volts AND amps, and comes with the shunt. The inset on the illustration shows two sets of lighted numbers: 12.0 and 50.0, corresponding to 12.0 volts and 50.0 amps.

In the extended product description here is a list of stuff included:
Package List:
1 x Blue LED digital panel meter.
1 x 5 pin pig tail connection cables.
1 x Shunt (50A 75mv)

Are you sure you bought the same thing???

Bill, I only bought the digital voltmeter, didn't see the need for the ammeter. I just thought that out as the seller does sell a variety of digital gauges of varying amps and voltage displays.
