Installing cargo slide to 3450TS

We have had our 3450TS about 2.5 wks now and want to add a cargo slide unit in the cargo area. How can I find the beams/floor joists under the floor of the cargo area? Are there any tanks, wires or hoses under the floor of the cargo area that need to be avoided?

Hi lowbridge,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and Family. We have a great bunch of people here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge if needed.

I would suggest you drop the front part of the cover from the frame. That way you can see what is there and also find the location of the floor joists. Not hard, just a few screws and then you can be sure. You really need to remove it any way to put nuts on the bolts. At least I used bolts and nuts,,, not wood or metal screws.

Enjoy the forum.

Thanks, jimtoo. I had really hoped that I could install with just wood screws. But, I'll probably do what you did and use bolts instead. Never pass up a chance to over-do a project!

For my slide to clear the door opening I had to put 2" spacers under the slide mounts to raise it where the drawer would clear the opening. And if you get much weight on the end of the drawer that slides out, depending on the length, when open you have quite a leverage trying to lift the inner end.

Slightly off topic. I elected to build my storage drawers which I built to the size I wanted to fit my equipment and I stacked them to get the full use of the cabinet height. The drawer size is approx. 16 inches wide and 50 inches deep. With only one drawer pulled out, the unit will not tilt out. I then used only wood screws to hold the drawer assembly in the proper location. The attached pictures are hard to see because they are black on black. The drawers slide on hard wood and wax makes them slide easy.
