Is there a good way to determine grade of road before trip?

I am curious if anyone has found a good tool to determine the grade of the roads in an upcoming trip. I have tried to find Topo maps and have.....but the information is difficult to figure out.

Specifically I am going down a new road next week. From the Junction of I-81 and I-77 (going south on I-77) in VA then probably splitting off on I-74 (in NC) as we head toward Greensboro, NC. I am not afraid of grades but I do feel more comfortable if I know what is ahead.
