Jackson, MS campgrounds

We will passing through Jackson, MS in October. I can not seem to find a campground that has a good review near there. Yogi at the Lake was our decision but when you read those reviews, holly cow, we decided not to chance that for 3 days. Any ideas or real experience near Jackson, MS?

We have stayed at Timberlake at Ross Barnett Reservoir. I think it is actually a Brandon address. It is nothing special, but it has sites that can be reserved and first come sites. All of the water sites are first come I think. It is close to a lot of eating places and shopping. It has been a few years since we've stayed there.

Not at Jackson but sorta close. Last time thru we stopped at Vicksburg and stayed at the Ameristar Casino RV Park. Nothing fancy but reasonable rates and clean. Close to the tourist spots.

We stayed at Movietown RV Park in Canton, MS last fall on our way south despite less than stellar reviews - bare bones but full hookups and level sites - OK for a couple of nights.

Try Benchmark RV at Meridian; let Randy know you are a member of the HOC. Very Nice RV Park and he and Brenda will treat you right.

There is a park in Clinton, ms just west of Jackson. It's where we stay when we go through town. More park models and single wides...but it works. Just a big asphalt parking lot marked off with about 35 - 40 sites.

Fairly east off/on....if all your doing is stopping overnight.

We also camped at Timberlake in May 2016 when we were traveling north on the Natchez Trace headed to Tupelo. Stayed a couple of nights to tour Jackson, neat capitol building and recommend Two Sisters Restaurant near the capitol building. There is a really nice walking/biking paved trail outside the campground and a great county park (& YMCA) next door to explore. Our site was a back-in, accommodated our 40 ft BigHorn and duallie nicely, full hook-up and for $26 a bargain. Convenient to shopping, dining, Jackson, etc

Just a side note, while walking one evening, we spotted a 3610 Big Horn - same as ours. Stopped to chat with owner, a widow who had just purchased the previously owned BigHorn to live in at Timberlake full time. She had tons of questions about everything from the keypad to not having keys for her basement storage plus a water leak in her basement. Jack spent the rest of the evening helping her out!!! We encouraged her to sign up for the HOC forum!
