Landmark (and others) - managing the hose and cable passthrough in the bottom of the UDC

A few months ago I added a really easy and inexpensive modification to close the bottom of the UDC after the water hose and cable/satellite coax lines are connected. I took a garden kneeling pad from Home Depot and cut it to fit the bottom of the UDC. Then cut slits as pictured below. When traveling, the pad maintains a seal against insects and other stuff. When hooking up, or unhooking, I lift the inside edge as pictured and pass the cables and hose through. When pressed back down, the pad closes pretty snugly against the hose and cables.

I bought a big car wash sponge and cut it in half. I stuff that into the opening with the hoses and cables going between the two halves...Don

A couple of summers ago, I bought a scrap section of 2" furniture foam from JoAnn Fabrics. Used the UDC plug for a template and cut a circle a bit bigger in diameter. Cut a slit to the center and use it to fill the hole and snug up to the hose and wires.

I have been using a 2 x 6 cut to suit with a groove to seal better then the screw on cap. Been doing it since day one.
I have to admit that foam or rubber will form a better seal. Its time to modify my block with better seal.

I also had to improve the left wall to seal tight agains the closed door to prevent rodents entry to the basement.

I have one of the extra lids that screw down to cover that. It was in my boat when we bought it, Make a cutout for the hose and Sat cable. Then just screw it back down and its done.

I bought a $5 door mat at Wally World and cut it to size......cheap, easy, and should do the trick. Thanks for the idea!

After having had mice enter my rig, and spotting the first one in the docking center, these ideas of plugging up the connecting hoses and cables may deny these critters a primary route of access when hooked up to utilities.

I will definitely implement this idea!!
