Landmark awning LED strip lights

When we bought the used Oshkosh it was missing the awning light on the main awning. The other awning over the dinette area has the lights and they work fine. The missing lights have 2 wires coming from the awning frame with what appears to be a white rub protector over them. I have taped up the ends of the wires and Gorilla taped them to the inside part of the awning frame to prevent any electrical issues.
With all that said here is the question...how are the lights attached to the awning? I called Heartland and got a price for the lights and a "track?" I'm not sure if I need a track. The lights on the other awning look like they are attached by glue or maybe peel and stick tape.
Any input is welcome.

From many posts on the forum, I think the most common arrangement is that the strip of lights are mounted to a track.

Ideally, you want the light strip outside the awning. If it's inside the awning, and the awning is retracted, and someone turns the lights on, you can damage the awning material.

Hmmm...the existing light strip is under the awning right up against the sidewall. I assume it is OEM. If it was outside the awning it wouldn't light the area under the awning; if I'm understanding you.

Mounting the strip under the retracted awning works. Early on I think some were mounted to the awning material and there were reports of damage.

The existing lights appear to be mounted directly to the awning material.
If I use a track how do I mount that to the sidewall?
Maybe I need to go look at a new model, or just forget about it.

On my Oshkosh the lights are just below the awning. When we first took possession the main awning lights didn’t work. The wires were cut by the awning as it moved out and in. They are standard equipment so I’d be surprised if you don’t have them.

What do you mean "below the awning"? Where?
You'd be surprised if I didn't have what? The lights? I don't have them. I have 2 wires hanging down loose in the forward awning frame. I taped the ends off and Gorilla taped them inside the awning frame so they wouldn't get cut by the awning arm.
Did you fix the cut wires? Relocate the lights, or just abandoned them?

By just below the awning, means just that. When the main awning is rolled up you get very little light. Move the awning out just a few inches from its travel position you get a much broader swath of light. I’m not aware that awning lights were optional, I was under the impression they were standard fare, so if you’re saying they aren’t there then in my opinion the factory failed to install them.

When we bought our rig, the awning fabric had been replaced and the lights damaged in the process. I also found the two wires you are talking about coming out of the side. I ordered a self-stick LED strip from eBay and mounted it on the actual trailer about 4 inches below the awning. They have held on for over a year now. I did silicone the ends for a little extra support. Best part is, I got less than $20 in it.

I'm assuming you mounted the lights to the wall of the trailer. How did you do that, with screws, glue, etc?
I should have specifically said that I think it had lights on it from the factory, but apparently the previous owner removed them or they fell off, thus the 2 wires just hanging loose in the awning frame.
So if the lights fell off in the 1 year the previous owner had it, I'll leave them off.

my awning lights came from the factory, I didn’t have to install them. Other then as I heyday mentioned once they repaired the wires the have worked flawlessly. I can kind of imagine that the previous owner removed them as my wife thinks they are too bright. Myself I like a lot of light so the compromise is she doesn’t have them on when she is outside whereas when I’m outside at night I have them burning she thinks it impedes on the neighbor but I don’t feel that way at all.

They replaced the strip at the dealership and all has been fine, until we "camped" a couple months ago at home and discovered the entire strip did not work at all, not even flashing when you flip the switch On. It is back at the dealership now to have that corrected and one of the slides being adjusted before we hit the road with it in a few weeks. Yes, I have also found you have to point the remote towards the sensor at the left end of the roller, after you have flipped the inside switch to On, which should cause the strip to at least flash that there is power to it.</p>

I don't have a remote. I have a switch. Turn on the switch, the lights come on.

Such situations occur when you procure a product not so qualitative, so later some problems arise either in the technical part, or simply unravels. I've experienced something similar a few times, so I decided to pay attention to what I buy. The last purchase made in this area was on https://www.ukled.co.uk/led-strip-lights.html. now I am enormously pleased because they are already ten years old and have not peeled off or not even damaged any of them. I would advise you to do a review in what you have and if you should even get some new, but qualitative
