Manual to Electric Awning Replacement

Have 2008 Bighorn 3400 RL. It came with the manual awning. I am now considering the electric option. I contacted Camping World interested in the Dometic 9100. However they are concerned about the front rail on the Bighorn, because it is shorter that the 9100 may not work.

Here is the technicians concern:

Hello Mr. Scott,

Okay, here’s the deal. The 9100does not have 5[SUP]th[/SUP] wheel hardware available, although we couldpossibly have other options. The shortest hardware for the 9100 is Basementhardware. It is intended for rigs that have basement storage resulting in theawning rail (the part affixed to the coach that the awning slides into) beingrelatively high off the ground. As such, Basement hardware has a steeper pitchtoward the ground so it can serve its purpose.

For this to possibly be anoption, we need to have 63” from the awning rail to the bottom mounting pointfor the hardware where the short arm is now. We would also need a minimum of11” from top of the door to the awning rail to clear the top of the rail. Thefinished installation would put the awning roller tube 36” below the awningrail with the awning out fully extended to 8 feet.

The only other option is aWeather Pro which is the Lamborghini loving brother of the 9100, it has lots ofnice features but there is almost exactly a 1000.00 difference between that andthe 9100 estimate attached.

Looking for someone that has up-graded from the manual for 2008 vintage Bighorn.

Not sure the difference between your 3400 and our 2007 3055 but we replaced our manual to an electric and there was no real issue except where they put the switch. All we did was give give them the length and they looked up the Dometic site and ordered everything they needed, hardware, color we wanted, etc. Hope this helps. Doug
