Next Newbe Question - Hydraulics

Ok, here is my next question and it concerns the hydraulic level up system. I've read the owners manual that is on the web site and what I would like to know is:

1. The owner's manual refers to front hydraulic gear and rear electric gear. I thought the Landmark with level up had 6 hydraulic feet. So, what exactly does it have, 2, 4 or 6 hydraulic?Ok, here is my next question and it concerns the hydraulic level up system. I've read the owner’s manual that is on the web site and what I would like to know is:

2. I know of others who have a lippert auto leveling system and it remembers the height that the trailer is unhitched at so when it is time to rehitch it can automatically go to that position. I did not see this mentioned in the manual, so I'm thinking the system that Heartland uses does not have this function. Am I correct or wrong?

3. Is the level up system fully controllable from the touch screen remote or is there a separate remote for the level up.

As always, I look foward to the advice and experience that I know is always available on this forum.

Ron,

Before the 6 point system, there was a 4 point system; 4 hydraulic jacks plus 2 electric stabilizers. The 2nd year of the 4 point introduced the feature where it remembered where you dropped it off so you could get back to that position by pressing 2 buttons. Then came the 6 point system with 6 hydraulic jacks. I believe the middle 2 act as stabilizers.

I'm not sure whether Lippert has made this all clear in the documentation.

We just took delivery of our new Landmark a little over a month ago and love it! The coach does have 6 hydraulic levelers and they do all work independently to level the coach. We recently had to set up in a slope with a gulley running right under the two center legs, but after putting a couple of extra leveler blocks under the two legs in the trough the automatic level system compensated for the extra depth and leveled the coach just as if it were on smooth, solid, concrete.

The Landmark does remember the height of the front landing gear and will return there if you push the correct buttons at the same time. Those instructions are listed on a decal stuck next to the control panel in the basement. A word of caution though. If for some reason you have caused the unit to experience an error (I've done that several times by hitting the wrong buttons with my fat fingers), the unit can move in an unexpected direction. Be vigilant and if need be, you can hit the off button quickly to reset everything. "3. Is the level up system fully controllable from the touch screen remote or is there a separate remote for the level up." The remote only controls the front landing gear and I have not seen a remote for the entire system. I personally don't use the remote for the front levelers as I feel more comfortable being at the back of the truck when raising the coach off the hitch and the leveler switch is in a really handy position on the front side of the coach. I know you and Sarah are going to really enjoy your new Landmark. My wife enjoys ours so much she is talking about selling our farm and traveling full time for the new few years.

The owner's manual is VERY generic...when you receive your unit you will also receive a packet full of manuals for each individual system that is standard and that you special ordered on your specific unit.

On our Bighorn that had been retrofitted with Level-Up we did have a remote, but that was before they developed the fully automatic system. Our new Landmark is controlled by the panel exclusively...no remote that we know of.

When you use any of the "auto modes" auto level, auto retract or re-hitch height, tapping any of the buttons will set a "panic mode" and stop all action that must be acknowledged with a "enter" button.

Thanks for that info. Do you have the touch pad remote for the Landmark? If so, it shows on the web site that it controls the raising and lowering of the coach, but is that different than the auto level function (I'm guessing it is).

So Ronn, I just saw your signature and realized you don't even have your trailer yet!

Don't sweat it, it will all make sense once you have it and get to play around a bit. And the odds are good something may change anyway between now and the time you get it.

Sarah and I are really looking forward to getting our new coach. Should be around mid August. Until then I just keep coming up with questions, and what ifs, etc. The folks at HL and on the forum have been great getting me answers. I just wish I could go to sleep tonight and wake up in the morning and go get my new Landmark. It is going to be a big change from the Open Range 5'er that I have right now.

Ah yup, know exactly what you mean. Same with us while waiting for ours to be built. Missed our first rally at Goshen in 09 waiting for the build.

Unless they changed the functions on the remote since we picked up our Landmark, the touch-pad controls only the front pads and you will use the control pad mounted in the storage bay to activate the self leveling feature.

Thanks for the info. I doubt they changed something that drastic between 2013 and 2014, but...
