Norcold Refer Leaking Ammonia

Well after a year and a half wait I finally came home with my 2015 3010RE-The Norcold refrigerator is leaking ammonia and gurgling! With all the positive info on this site I didn't expect this highly disappointing issue-Now the dealer tells me 3 weeks before I can get it in and I'm sure at least two for the diagnosis and repair all the while I'm making payments on a RV I can't use! The 12 volt battery is so cheap there isn't even a name brand on it! I know this is the dealers fault but holy cow-I go to pick it up and its showing low voltage before we even start the horribly inefficient walk through. Be cautious with Giant RV in Colton-The sale is done so there goes the service!

Re: $$ And A Bad Fridg!

Maybe you can find a mobile servicer to look at it. call Heartland first.

Hi Redrider007,

Norcold warrants their refrigerators and their website says there's a 1 year warranty. I'd suggest you take a look at your refrigerator user manual to see what length of warranty it carries - hopefully still under warranty.

Leaking ammonia is usually an indication that it will need a new cooling unit.

It shouldn't take more than a few days to get a cooling unit, and installing it is a 1 day job. The actual elapsed time is a function of the dealership or service shop.

You'll probably be better off finding an independent shop authorized for Norcold service. And if the replacement cooling unit is at your expense, a 3rd party cooling unit may save you some money.

Some people have replaced the cooling unit on their own. I believe some of the 3rd party sources will give you detailed instructions on doing it yourself.

I would post this service experience on RVServiceReviews.com . I encourage potential RV buyers to check out this site before buying, as most every buyer has some warranty issues. The good news is that you don't HAVE to use the selling dealer's service with Heartland. You can use any servicer you choose with a prior phone call to Heartland service for authorization. Many of us have found that RV servicers who do not sell RV's have a business incentive to do quick, good service. Maybe the RV dealer will GIVE you an exchange battery that you can install, and you will be done with them.

You could call Temecula Valley RV at 951-894-2347. They do HL warranty work and ask for Bill or Marty. You might call Dometic and see if they have anyone close to you to do the repair in short order.
