I just bought a 2015 Heartland Torque TQ 380. The dry weight of the trailer is 13,800 lbs but the GVWR is 18,000. I currently have a 16K hitch installed in my truck. I plan to upgrade it to a 20K at some point. Do you think I would be able to pull the trailer home from the dealer unloaded with the 16K hitch or should I upgrade it prior to trying to pull it home?

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and to the family. We have a great bunch of folks here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge when needed.
There is a yellow tag on the inside of the door that shows the actual weight of the unit when it rolled out the door of the plant. But just to pull it home with no load, I would think you would be fine. But my suggestion is to upgrade your hitch before you do much loading for safety.

I just changed my 16K Reese slider hitch for an Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th wheel hitch, and towed my 13,800 GVWR Gateway 3300ML about 200 miles with it. So far, I am very impressed as there was no jerking or chucking, much smoother. I have the 3200 version which I installed on my existing rails. It can be for a short bed or a long bed. Check the reviews for it on Amazon.com. I have a standard pin box, and it might even be better if I had a Mor/Ryde or one of the other air pin boxes. But right now, I am pleased.

Super Glide has just come out with a 18,000# model that will fit into standard bed rails if you already have those installed. You won't need any special mounts or adapters. Just lift out your old hitch and drop in the new one. It's among their lowest priced models as well. Shop around online for your best pricing. In the meantime I would pull it home with your old one..Don

I know I am late to the party but we just got a brand new Landmark Ashland and was going through the same questions. The dealer recommended the Pullright ISR Series Super 5th 20K. Had it installed and then towed the unit home from Albuquerque to Santa Fe. About an hour and fifteen minutes and went from 5,300 ft elevation to 7,000 feet elevation. Drove through bumper to bumper traffic for 20 minutes and then during the steepest part of the trip was towing the unit at 70 miles an hour. Never had an issue so in this case the dealer had it right. Highly recommend the Pullright hitch.
