Hey all, thanks for your help so far. Any tips for our delivery review and training? This is our first RV, so we plan to video the training for future reference. We''re getting excited!

Ask the dealer to hook up to water and electric and check everything. Make sure you understand what every switch does. How the audio visual systems work. Check out the plumbing controls including drains, overflows, winterization controls, and all the dump valves. Hopefully the dealer rep who does the walk through will know the product. If they're not sure about anything, take a picture and ask here.

Make sure you don't run the water heater electric element without water in the tank. Same for tank heating pads (YETI). Don't run it with tanks empty.

Does the dealer have a place where you can camp for a night or two to "test-drive" the rig? It will give you time to review what you were told on the walk through. Also, you'll be right there if you have more questions or find that you need to get some things corrected.
Above all, avoid the temptation to say "We'll take care of that later"
Congratulations! There's a lot of fun to be had with a Cyclone

Dan,

You're the man, but I guess you get that a lot. We have a 2-3 hours training fully hooked-up Friday. I plan to video everything. I'm sure there will be a lot to absorb. I worked through the water & sewer HUG manual to begin familiarizing myself. There's great information there. A couple questions:

Do you use an external dump valve with your black tank? Sounds like a good idea in the manual?
I bought a single water filter for connecting the water to the regulator, should I reconsider and get a two-stage filter set?

Thanks again!

Hi Scott,

Yes, I have a twist-on external gate valve, and a clear flush-king adapter. I can see exactly how much and what is coming out the sewer line. Once it appears to be clear running water, I'll close the external gate valve and run water into the black tank for 6 minutes (less if at a very high flow campground) and open the valve to drain the tank a 2nd time. Amazing how much more stuff comes out. I usually do a third dump.

After finishing with all tanks, all the tank valves close, I'll close the external gate valve again and let it sit for an hour or so. That's to make sure there isn't a slow leak from the black tank. If all looks good, I'll open the external gate valve. If there's a water build up, I'll assume something's caught in the black tank valve and I'll flush some more. But that's pretty rare now that I'm dumping the black tank several times.

The external gate valve stays closed while towing. I hook up the sewer hose and then open the external gate valve. There's usually a little fluid that was trapped in the pipes and it goes down the hose instead of onto my feet.

On the filters, I have a 2 stage setup, but most of the places we stay have pretty good water so I'm mostly running with the particulate filter alone.

Dan,

I'll order the external valve today. Thanks for the tip in multi flushing the black tank. I'll do that from the start.

Do you add anything to treat the tank after flush?

I add a packet of the orange stuff from Walmart. Never tested to see if it's really necessary, but we don't have odors, so maybe it's doing something. A couple of times each year before towing I'll add dissolved Calgon Water Softener, detergent and bleach and let it clean the tank during travel (Water Systems Guide page 21).

Dan,

Yeah, I saw that tip in the guide, wondered if it worked. Sounds like a good plan. I look forward to learning all this first-hand, and then paying your help forward.

We have a couple of Texas Chapter Rallies coming up in October. Check out the EVENTS tab at top of page. Maybe we'll see you there.

Congrats on 4200. After we got home, after picking up our 3100, I noticed some missing silicon caulk at the ceiling in the shower. Of all places to forget the silcon caulk in the bathroom, you would think they would make sure the place water is spraying would get sealed. Also in shower, the walls covered with vinyl and has tape covering joints. There was one corners that needed tape trim. There were a few screws loose in the wood trim border for the bedroom slide. after camping a half a season, we noticed the door jam to the bedroom door glue was not holding anymore, so I screwed it. The bathroom is loose to, so maybe pull on the door jams-they are plastic in my 3100. Otherwise we were good. Pretty minor things here. With my new knowledge, they would show me the tire pressure is at max sidewall pressure. It was a chore the first time I tryed to hook up satellite TV. Maybe make sure everything works there, or they label which connection is which so you dont have to be frustrated at your first campout. Good luck!
