Receptacle Issue

When our generator is running, we have no power to any outlets. The GCFI has been reset and tested. Nothing changes.

There are breakers on your generator.
If they are not tripped take a look inside your transfer switch. It's not uncommon to find loose or burned wires there.
Be sure to disconnect from shore power and turn generator off before doing any of that work.

Peace
Dave

Thank you. We’ve reset the breakers on the generator and still no luck. We will try to locate the transfer switch. Our model is a 2017 HD Edition 4250.

The transfer switch should be behind the rear basement wall of the pass-thru storage area on the passenger side. It may be near the water pump.

After inspecting, we have an inverter that is receiving 12 volt power. The inverter is not coming on or resetting which is then preventing the Magnum Energy 15 amp Transfer Switch from working.

The invertor and 15 amp transfer switch is for the residential fridge, only, and nothing to do with anything else. Are you using and onboard genderator or a stand alone? Either way, cycle the breaker on the generator.

Check the breakers on the generator, cycle them. Look for the 30amp or 50 amp transfer switch for the generator. See if it is getting power from the generator.

Ben, is there anything else working on the generator power?

The transfer switch for the fridge can/does go bad.
On the bottom of the inverter is a GFCI outlet, check it and try to reset again. If it resets, check the power coming out.
People have replaced the GFCI on the inverter with a regular non-GFCI outlet.

Thank you. We have power when set up on our portable generator. After speaking to an RV mechanic, our transfer switch is bad and not recognizing when shore power is on or off.

The most frequent cause of transfer relay failure is simple arcing damage of the high current relay contacts, 3 sets of 50 amp double pole contacts (6 contact surfaces). This can usually be repaired by filing the contact surfaces with a thin flat swiss file, and finishing the job with a high quality electrical contact cleaner/restorer chemical like Caig DeOxIt. Transfer switch contact arcing damage can be minimized by using the breaker panel mains breakers to shut off the electrical current at the breakers (and causing the contact arcing to be at the easily accessible and easily replaceable mains circuit breakers), versus the inaccessible and not usually locally available transfer switch relay. The same goes for first connection of power at a new campsite - have your mains breakers off, turn on the campsite pedestal breaker, then turn on the mains breakers last to cause that contact arc to be on the mains breakers instead of in the transfer switch.

If the relay is mechanically switching you should hear an audible "thump" within 30 seconds of applying shorepower from the campsite pedestal to the trailer. It can mechanically switch but not make electrical contact due to the relay contacts being pitted as described above.

BTW, do all wiring and transfer relay repairs WITH ALL SOURCES OF ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE TRAILER OFF.
