Replacement of hot water outlet question

My plastic hot water outlet cracked and I broke it trying to back it out. I saw the the threads about ways to back out the plastic part. It also has a spring in it that I assume is a check valve to prevent water coming back in. If I replace the plastic part with brass how does the check valve stay in there? What all do I need to replace the parts? Thanks, Don

Hi Don,

You need to buy a brass check valve/backflow preventer like this. You'll also need a close nipple so both ends of the combined device are male. Make sure you have teflon tape to get a leak free connection of the parts. Look at the arrow on the check valve to get the correct orientation for water to flow.

The hard part is usually cleaning out the threads without damaging them.
