We're looking for some feedback on Resorts of Distinction. Good, bad, ugly ... whatever. Anyone out there have any experience with this group?

Thanks!

We have been ROD members for a long time as it was included with our Thousand Trails membership. We have used it on occasion and have not had any complaints. If you use it the membership fee will pay for itself in savings. ROD is much like Good Sam, Escapees, RPI, Coast to Coast etc. Most all of the memberships give you discounts on camping fees. ROD is most like Coast to Coast in my opinion because ROD offers discounts on Condos throughout the world.

Belonged to ROD for many years, but now have RPI. They overlap on many campgrounds, so dropped it. You usually get a free year when you buy into your home campground, so that gives you a chance to try it. It worked OK for us, but you have to be flexible. The 30/60/90 day window for reservations was a problem when trying to plan a trip far in advance. Campgrounds restrict the number of ROD's they let stay. They may have spaces available, but if they reached their ROD limit, you're out of luck. Occasionally, we were placed in the worst site in the campground. But the price is right for camping.

We have been ROD members for more than 15 years now and have a few minor complaints, however are mostly happy with it and have not dropped it in all those years, so we obviously like it more than we dislike it:
  1. The amount of resorts that belong to ROD seems to be dwindling here in the Pacific NW.
  2. The reservation process does not allow for pre-planning far in advance as you can't make reservations more than 90 days in advance in most cases.
  3. Most ROD campgrounds have a specific number of ROD sites available and once those are full or booked, no matter how many other sites might be available they turn away other ROD members requesting a reservation.
  4. A lot of times the parks leave the least attractive sites in their park for the ROD/Coast to Coast/RPI/AOR members.

But, our membership allows us to stay free when we stay as long as we keep $50.00 in credits on the books, so for a financial aspect it pays for itself. We have figured out the parks in our area that do not have #3 and #4 restrictions listed above and use it for when we stay at those parks.
