satellite cable setup

We are buying the new dish tailgater thats supports 2 dish boxes. We have a 2014 Elkridge e29 with a wall between the two entertainment centers and was wondering how to set up the cables in that situation and if you happen to have the schematics for it? Thanks very much.

Hi PYRoss1Grl,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum. The manuals section of the forum has coax layouts for many models, but I don't see one for the Elkridge, so I'm not sure how your satellite connections are laid out. On many models there will be two satellite coax connectors in the Universal Docking Center (UDC) that connect be matching satellite connectors in the living room entertainment center and in the bedroom. The bedroom connection is usually next to the antenna signal booster.

If there's only one satellite connector in the UDC, you may have only one cable drop and that would probably be in the living room entertainment center. In that case you might consider re-purposing the cable TV connector in the UDC. If you disconnect the other end of that cable from the signal booster, you could use the cable for satellite. It's usually a straight shot from the UDC to the signal booster without any splitters and it's probably RG-6 coax, so it'll probably work with satellite.

Perry, I just tried to find a "Tailgater" antenna that supports two receivers and could not. Are you using "Tailgater" as a generic name to describe any portable moveable antenna or is there in fact a new Dish Tailgater antenna that supports two receivers? If so would you please post a link to it. Thanks, Mike

You might find our Getting Started With Satellite TV user guide to be helpful in selecting a dish if the Tailgater isn't actually what you want. There may be some newer offerings since this guide was written, but it's still basically accurate. See the selection flowchart on page 6.

On edit: it's probably worth mentioning that even with a dish that supports 2 receivers, you may have limitations. For DISH TV, the dish can only point to one satellite at a time. Since programming comes from more than one satellite, you can watch different programs on the 2 receivers, but only if the programs come from the same satellite.

The King supports two receivers, but only if they are watching programing from the same satellite.

It's about time they made a tailgater for two tv's. We have Dish and have a power antenna on the roof of the rig. We take our dvr from home and are able to watch different programs on both tv's. Of course, the dvr supports two tv's.

I looked at the King tailgater. It indicates it can use two receivers. I know the 211 is not a dvr, not sure about the 411. So, it appears you have to buy two receivers in order to use it on two tv's. Of course, I may be reading this wrong.

I am not advocating it, but looks like a new product that was not available 6 mo ago when I was looking at portable dishes. What is important is the wiring. Our ElkRidge and many of the brands that are not the top 3 will not have adequate in-coach wiring to support two receivers.

We went with a Dish Network "Hopper" that uses wireless "Joeys" to add TVs to the system, without being dependent on satellite cabling. Each can view and record and watch anything, separately. However, we have a dish with multiple LNBs, and currently it is mounted on a tripod secured at our site. This will be more challenging to set up as we move, but it is doable.

An external hard drive can be added to the 211K and 211 Z receivers and have all the features of DVR. you can watch something on the dvr while recording,, watch OTA TV or watch what you are recording. You just cannot record more that one Sat program at a time. You can record a sat program and an OTA TV program at the same time.

With the Tailgater2. Two receivers are needed if you want to watch two sat programs at the same time. One receiver will determine which sat the dish will point to and the second receiver will only be able to see channels available on that sat selected by the first.

Thanks for the info! We also have a tailgater and 211 receiver. I don't think I can connect a hard drive. Will the 211K or 211Z work with the original tailgater?
