Sundance 2900MK Kitchen GFI?

Boon docking last week end. While using my portable generator I plugged in an electric toaster, the generator went into overload and shut down. I tried to reset the gfi but couldn't. Replaced the gfi but the receptacle is not working. Any idea as to what the problem is?

What size is your portable generator?
Did your GFI trip at the time of overload?
Did you reset the generator?

Thanks Dave, The generator is a Champion 2000. Yes the GFI tripped at the point of overload and I reset it. In the meantime I replaced the new but as it turned out faulty GFI with another and "Voila." Everything is fine. Thanks for getting back to me.
