Anchor Down is a new campground on Lake Douglas between Pigeon Forge and Dandridge. It is overlooking the lake and the scenery is fantastic. Big Rigs galore.....no problems. I will say though, it is located a distance from the attractions that people come to the area to see. We visit the area two or three times a year and we usually stay at River Plantation. Its spacious, big rig friendly and conviently located to all attractions.

We also stay 90% of the time at River Plantation in Sevierville (http://rvcoutdoors.com/river-plantation). It's one of the first campground before you get into Pigeon Forge which puts you close to everything but when it's time to leave, e-z'r getting out of PF. There are lots of campgrounds down hwy 321 (Wears Valley Rd) out of Pigeon Forge but also puts you into a lot of traffic. We are going to River Plantation tomorrow, leaving on Sunday.

That Anchor Down Campground that Van mentioned, is pretty nice looking. Jim and Cheryl Horst, former club members, just stayed there and posted pics on Cheryl's Facebook wall. Gorgeous! But yeah, it is a bit farther from Sevierville (15 min) and Pigeon Forge (30 min). I'd still like to stay there once to check it out. Looks peaceful.
That said, Nancy and I have started staying at Bear Cove Village. We like it due to it's close proximity to Pigeon Forge and Dollywood (1 mile) and the ability to get into Pigeon Forge by skipping the Parkway.

We just stayed 8 days at Riverside RV in Sevierville. Just off the interstate, with easy access. Excellent WIFI, level sites, nice wide access roads. As Jim mentioned, Bear Cove is in a great location. We've stayed there many times. Only downside there is the access roads and sites are tight. With a big rig there's little room for parking once you are on site. Bear Cove like several others has become a little pricey for what they offer. Twin Mountain Rv Park in Pigeon Forge is another park we've stayed at. It's off the parkway, and on a side street that you can use to avoid the parkway traffic. It's an older park with lots of trees, and decent size spaces. Very close in to everything, trolley stop at the park.

Thanks all for your input. We are going to give Anchor Down a try.
If you could recommend some places to see, that would be great.
Jim, I know you are local near there, if you are home the first week of August, we will look you up.

There's always the mountains to wander around both hiking and driving. If you go to the River Plantation link I posted above, it has links to many of the local attractions in and around PF/Gatlinburg. There's Dollywood, Dixie Stampede, all kinds of go-karts, putt-putt til you go crazy, Lumberjack dinner theater, etc. Here is the link to the Pigeon Forge attractions list http://www.mypigeonforge.com/things-to-do/?ucid=P2011-002467&gclid=CKTkkMyKzb8CFZRj7Aodqx0AIw . Do you know of any goo campgrounds near Erwin, Tennessee.
We worked at Dollywood for 3 years and it is definitely worth the price. They have great rides & roller coasters if that is your thing and excellent entertainment if it is not. Food costs are about average for a theme park. A great show on the parkway is Smoky Mountain Opry. We have seen it several times and are never disappointed. Another good show is Country Tonite. We aren't much into comedy shows but have gone to the show at the Comedy Club. It is very family oriented and funny. Hope you enjoy yourself in Pigeon Forge.
We own a Landmark and have reservations at Creekside in Pigeon Forge next week, which I have heard some good things about. I also talked to a fellow RV'er today at Carolina Landing who said that when I get there to leave my truck and to take the trolley, which stops at the campsites and goes to all the attractions. Will pass on my findings.

I live about 7 miles from Erwin. What size is your rig and what amenities are you looking for in a campground? Alot of the campgrounds in the Erwin area are not big rig friendly.
Creekside has a few pull troughs which will make it a lot easier. The owner is very helpful so let him know the length of your trailer before making a reservation. The past few years we have stayed at Pine Mountain in PF. The sites on the water are very large with concrete patios and drive ways.Don
Thanks. I have site #4. The reservations were made by the dealer in Knoxville (RVs For Less) whom we purchased our RV from, since they give two free night at Creekside with our purchase. We will be there for five days then gradually making our way to Williamsburgh, VA. We will keep Piine Mountain in mind for the next time based on what you said and that they had some excellent reviews.
