Torque XLT T322 Hitch Weight?

I'm curious if the hitch weight listed is dry weight or loaded?

Also, is the dry weight listed correctly at 8,600lbs? I'm finding several dealer sites listing the UVW as 9,999lbs.

Trying to determine my payload rating if my 2017 2500 Silveardo Crew Cab, SB, can pull it safely and be within the GVWR. I don't care for the fare weather answers that the duramax can pull anything.

2017 Silverado 2500 Duramax Crew Cab Short Box
Curb Weight: 7,800
GVWR: 10,000
GCVWR: 25,300
Payload (yellow sticker on the door jam): 2,178
Towing Capacity (according to GM towing guide: With WD hitch 13,000
Max Tongue weight: 1500 lbs as stated on hitch.

Estimated Payload
Passengers: 600
Cargo: 200
Total payload (minus hitch weight): 800

2018 Torque XLT 322
UVW: 9,999lbs
GVWR: 12,800 lbs
Hitch: 1,340 lbs

After doing the math.

Hitched
Available Payload: 38 lbs left over from the 2,178 payload, added cargo, passengers, hitch weight, - payload.
New GVW 9,940
New GCVW 21,400
Towing Capacity 13,000

38 lbs is narrow margin of not going over. I'm not over the capacity and within the limits of the truck. Is this ok?

Hi pooshrod,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum.

Published hitch or pin weights are typically for an empty trailer, based on the weight of the prototype when it first went into production.

For planning purposes, you should work from the trailer's GVWR because most people end up towing pretty close to GVWR. In the case of a bumper pull, plan on hitch weight running around 15% of GVWR. So it'll probably be several hundred pounds more than the published spec.
