Tow vehicle advice

This thread has lots of good advise, but it also contains some bad advise. The worst piece of bad advise is "you do not need a exhaust brake." While this is true with a gas engine, it is not true with a diesel. And, it will not damage the engine. If it did, why would the big three pickup manufactures install them as a factory option. The factory hitch which Ford sells in a Reese "Elite" series. There are many good hitches available which have the rail under the bed. The hardest thing for a someone who is wanting and needing information is separating the good from the bad advise. It may be better to seek information somewhere besides a public forum.

Do not need an exhaust brake. I pulled 5 years with Chevy Dmax and no exhaust brake, no problem and did not feel out of control or use excessive braking in the mountains.

Had both, with and without an exhaust brake and if your traveling only on flat land you can go without but if you think you might " hit the mountains" at anytime then an exhaust brake is recommended and no, an exhaust brake will not hurt your motor.
