Trailer Brake Question

On my NT21FBS, the trailer brake would stop the truck hard. On my E289 with the brake set on Heavy electric, it doesn't feel the same. Feels weaker at the 5.5 setting. Could this be due to the heavier rig and truck or is this something I should be looking at? Thanks in advance.

Have you ever looked at the brakes themselves? I would have them inspected, just to be sure there isn't a problem there.
I will concede that a heavier rig is not going to have the same immediate stopping power of your previous tow-behind.

I was having a similar problem when I first got my BH. I drove it about 300 miles and knew something didn't feel right. Turns out the RV transport company had burned out my brakes while hauling it to the dealer. After that problem was corrected, all was good. Trace

Hi Frank,

Did you ever go through the burnishing procedure? If not, see paragraph 3 on the attachment.

Also, you might want to switch the brake controller to Light Trailer mode. I'm not positive about the difference between Heavy and Light modes, but I think the voltage applied for a given push on the brake pedal will be higher. According to the information in the attachment, applying higher voltage early may be a problem.

Thanks for the info and attachment. I'll get this figured out yet and there might not even be an issue. Thanks again for the reply.

Has any one greased them with a grease through the hub cap?? Could have brakes full of grease. Have they been properly adjusted??

I did grease the brgs with the E Z lube fittings however they seem to be like they were before the grease. I'm going to be looking at them later this weekend.

Baker just a side note. When using the EZ lube fitting...make sure you are spinning the tires when doing it.
