traveling with our kitty for first time

surprising she seems to be enjoying the trip! We just could not leave her for such a long time. We put her a carrier in the fifth wheel but she was miserable. Now we just let her loose and check her when we have pit stops. Careful we don't squash her with the slide-outs! Ten miles west of Collins missouri there is a greaat rv park called Arrowpoint that is excellent--has extended stay sites and wonderful owners!--on to KANSAS== CAROL

Watch out for the bedroom slide. On ours, when the slide was in, our kitty could get into the space below the head of the bed. We had to get her out with a can of tuna - no way to reach in to get her. She would have been crushed if we pushed the slide out while she was back there. After that we didn't let her loose in the RV until the slides were out.

We kept her with us in the truck while driving. We got a fold-up cat carrier with top and front zippered openings for carrying her around outside the truck. In the truck my wife held her a good bit of the time. We also kept her on a leash so she didn't have opportunity to get out when we stopped. We folded up the back seat on one side so she could have a small litterbox.

She tolerated riding in the truck, but she absolutely loved living in the RV.

We travel with 2 dogs and 1 cat. All 3 are up front with us when we travel. They get along real well and seem to enjoy being able to look outside as we travel. The cat likes to sit on the backs of the back seat and just watch the world go by.

Sox & Schooz also travel in the truck. We use the leash trick so they can't bolt when we open the door and they really sleep through most of the miles. We love to have them with us and they seem to love everything about the Bighorn except for the leather sofa! We put litter box on the floor in the back and trust me , you will know when they use it!

We have to be careful to keep the bedroom closed off when the slide is in also. Had to wait till about 10:00 to extend the bedroom slide cause kitty would not come out.

kitty is doing great! She has adjusted to the camper but really hates travel days. of course our rat terrier wishes she would just jump out and be lost forever! We are following everyones advice and being very careful putting the slides in and out. Thanks everyone. Carol

We travel with 3 cats and the first day out they got under the bed, this wasn't possible in our other trailer. We now make sure they are out of the bedroom and close the bedroom door before bringing in the slides. This allows them the freedom of the trailer(if they are not sleeping) and we aren't concerned bout them getting under the bed.

We just came back from 3 months on the road (to Alaska) and we travel/camp at least once a month. We travel with one dog and 2 cats. Except for when we cross the Canadian border, the dog is in the truck and the cats are in the trailer. We haven't had any problems with either of them hiding in or around the slideouts. One cat stays on the bed (she does at home too) and the other sacks out on or under the couch (same at home).
I love having them with us, except for the litter box. Yuck. We love our rig and if I ever get another it HAS to have a good spot for the litter box. As someone else said, in a small space like a trailer when the cats use the litterbox, you sure know it,:p

julie=we found a neat litter box on google under decorative kitty litter boxes. They have several differant kinds. Ours looks like a large planter. We have it under the desk and friends have asked what is that planter? Works great! Carol
