Travelsoft Water Softner

I have a Travelsoft RV Water Softner. The last time I stored it for a long period, it took me forever to get the musty smell out of my water, even though I used bleach during the regeneration process. Does anyone have any tips for long term storage of your Softner, the manual does a poor job of addressing this?

Don't just run bleach through it, put a couple of tablespoons of bleach in it form to top cap and let sit over night, then flush it out
