UP of Michigan - Any suggestions

We are traveling from Wisconsin Dells to Traverse City, MI and are looking for a place for a weekend in mid-July in the UP. I called one campground and they said a 42 ft. 5th wheel with 4 slides is not good for their park. The park is older than 50 years and not really set up for big rigs. Any suggestions on where to spend the weekend in Michigan's UP??

We've stayed at Lakeshore RV Park in St. Ignace, just over the bridge. We've also had a MI rally there. May want to check it out.

Can't help in the UP but in the Traverse City area we stayed in Williamsburg at the Traverse Bay RV Resort and it is top shelf.
There was a pretty decent restaurant just down the street as well. Not far from downtown Traverse City. By the way most of July is the Cherry season and they are very good.

We have stayed a couple of times at Whispering Valley RV Park in Rapid River, MI.
The park is OK, and very convenient to get to on US 2. For an overnight stay I will do it again.
This stop would be about half way on your trip from the Dells to Traverse City.
Rapid River is a very small town. Don't blink.
There is a small bar in town called the Swallow Inn that serves food and it is not bad. There is also a restaurant in town good for breakfast. Don't remember the name, but it is right on the highway.
If you want to go farther north in the UP you could go to Munising. There is a city park campground there on the shores of Lake Superior.
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is there and is a nice place to visit.

Peace

We highly recommend Cedarville RV in the UP. It's east of the bridge in a small resort town (resort from a UP perspective). You can get sites on Lake Huron - the northern tip. (Facing the Les Cheneaux islands...). They can handle big rigs. You can go from there to Sault Ste. Marie. If you've never been to the UP - be prepared - it can be pretty desolate. You can also go to St. Ignace pretty easily and go to Mackinac Island from there...... In August they have a Chris-Craft boat show.

I also suggest checking into Wild Cherry RV resort which is north of Traverse City. That is where the 2011 MI rally was held. The Leelanau peninsula is just gorgeous.

Country Village RV park in Ishpeming can fit big rigs and is also where our 2013 Rally is to be held. Lots to see in the UP. In Traverse City there is Timber Ridge: http://timberridgeresort.net/. I have stayed there numerous times and highly recommend it. Satellite reception can be iffy (cable is available) in parts of the park because it is so heavily wooded. It is close to town and has plenty of activities within the park. The activity areas (kids) is well separated from most of the sites. The park itself is quite large with some pads and connects to biking and hiking trails. It should be between 5 and 6 hours from Ishpeming to TC. Enjoy our State and see you down the road

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. This is EXACTLY why I love this forum so much. I was really looking for some point about half way between the Dells and the Traverse City area. I think Cookie hit it right on the head with Rapid River. Thanks Dave. I have put a call into Whispering Valley and am waiting on a return phone call from them. Also, thanks for the suggestion on Traverse Bay RV Resort, Rrloren. We spent two weeks there last summer touring area. Great spot to tour the Leelanau Peninsula from. It is definitely high on our list, but we were trying to find a "different" location a little further South to explore different sights. Thinking of maybe the Manistee area, but not really locked into any particular location as yet. Thanks again everyone. Great suggestions (and why I asked).:) Keith
