How do I apply the us map and states visited to my posts. Thanks

You can download your states visited map HERE.
Once you save it to your computer you need to to your Settings located at the top right of this page and then add the map as your signature pic.

When folks claim a state, is the claim based on time camping in that state or simply drive thru it without camping. I think it should be common procedure to only claim a state that one has spent time in while camping. However, I am not sure that is a the proper standard.

That is exactly what we do. We don't count it unless we actually camp in the state. Otherwise we would have 5 more states listed.
