Water heater anode rod

If it is an Atwood model, no.
Go to the "TOOLS" then to "HEARTLAND OWNERS MANUAL". After that go to "PLUMBING", look for "ATWOOD", next look at "ATWOOD HEATER CARE & MAINTENANCE" in the orange section you will see the information.

My water heater didn’t come with an anode rod in it. Should I install one using the drain plug as my access point..?

not all heaters have an anode rod. If drain plug is plastic like mine then you will not have the anode rod in that heater.
