My BH is in storage now but if I recall correctly it is a 1 1/8". I had to get a socket that size for mine.

Too tight
1 1/16 works on mine. Like someone else said up above, you many need a cheater bar to loosen it up. I had to do it with a 2 ft wrench. There is really no need for them to tighten these things this tight. They set mine so tight that they galled the threads so badly that a new rod would not seat regardless of how much Teflon tape and torque I put on it. I had to get a 3/4 npt tap and chase the threads to make them work again.
