What do you consider a high price for a site.

Trip last summer through the West to MN and Michigan. Most sites were full hookups for between $30-$40. Some were very nice, some not so. Worst was a KOA in New Mexico, a real dump, and one of the most expensive

Talk about ripping people off. The Coushatta Casino Red Shoes RV Resort in Kinder LA was charging $70 a night for a full hookup site on Labor Day Weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun) and then on Monday Labor Day the price went back to the normal $20 a night. BOOO HISSS

Yep and they were full too. We looked at going several dif places that weekend and most were that price down south of houston. That is why we went to lake Conroe instead.

Btw we are hosting a rally there in the spring and their '15 rates are a little higher than $20 but no where near $70.

I have to say that at $75 per day for full hookups . . . this was a steal!

Our campsite was awesome, with the river flowing less than 30 feet from the back end of our trailer . . .

We had wildlife (elk and bear) roaming through the campground . . . what a blast! (I've got photos....will post them later)!

Much better than a room at a casino hotel room at double the price for one night (FREE crab legs are worth every penny).

Here is a shot as we were getting ready to pull out on our way home:

John, what campground was this? We will be looking in Estes next summer. My daughter's in-laws live in Estes and we want to visit them.

Manor RV Park . . . also check out Spruce Lake RV Park.

Both owned by the same people . . . and the only thing that separates them is the river.

However, when we did our drive through, it seemed that Spruce Lake was more like a parking lot with sites so close side-by-side.

But everyone I spoke with said they had a blast there as well . . .

I would call them soon and book . . .

We took a drive up there about three months to scope out the campgrounds before we were going to go camping there, and got lucky as all of their best spots were already booked, and the only reason we got the riverfront spot was that the people who were in that spot were retired seasonal full-timers, but one of them died and the other decided to move out and go back to their regular home,

We just happened to stop by the very day they hauled their trailer out and got that spot for the week we were planning on spending there.

We had a blast . . . I still have to dig out some photos and post them here.

we stayed at Elk Meadow last year i Estes. Recommendation? DON'T STAY THERE. it was a dirt parking lot, slopes, pitted and no grass. paid something like $65 a night and it was bad. Location was good but i would never stay there again.

Interesting that you say that . . .

I've had several friends tell me that Elk Meadows was the bomb . . .

They do have a swimming pool and all . . .

But when we drove up there about 3 months before we planned on staying in Estes, we found Manor RV Park and stayed there instead.

We drove through all of the campgrounds, and Elk Meadows seemed like a field full of RV's, where at Manor RV Park we had our own space . . . with the river flowing right behind our campsite!

ManorRVEstesPark-IMG_20140608_154058177.jpg EstesPark-IMG_2845.jpg

Our neighbor while we where there, however, told us that he normally stays there every summer, but when he tried to book next year, they told him that they wouldn't book next summer as they are under negotiations of selling the property to developers who want to build condos on the property!

To bad!

If I would win the Powerball, I'd buy up the property and keep it as a campground forever . . .

It was totally awesome staying there . . . we had a blast!

By the by . . . I promised some photos . . . I'll try to get them later this evening!

The entrance to elk meadow had some neat meeting rooms, a swimming pool and some cabin like rooms to rent. A nice sundry room and a nice welcome desk. But as far as the rv park... Maybe 300 rig spots, 3 trees, 1000 gopher holes, 0 grass. We were on the side closest to the elk meadow (slash rv storage yard). And we did get awesome elk sightings and great views of the passes, But you could not sit out and watch them as the slope on the ground was so severe the chairs would rock. It wasn't bad it was really bad. And for people who 'rough it' a lot , this is in that don't go there category. Could be an awesome place, but they put NO money into the rv area and it shows.

Just left a "dog camp" in Freedom NH. I checked a local CG for a dump fee. What surprised me was a beautiful site with full hook ups (50amp) was $22 a night.

The dump fee was $25 .......

When camping, I'm not looking for swimming pools, recreation halls, or room service. I go to a hotel for that.
Full hook-ups are nice, but not a necessity.
Since I am looking for the basic campsite, anything over $30 per night I consider high.

I just got back from a 3 day camping adventure on the beach at Port Aransas, TX.

No hook-ups in the beach camping area, but there were restrooms and a dump station at the electric+water hook-ups section of the park behind the sand dunes.

This sign is mostly a joke to the locals. They drive through the beach camping area like it was Daytona beach. There are day use areas on the beach, but non-campers prefer to do their day-use activities on the camping designated part of the beach. However, at night, the beach is patrolled to prevent overnight campers from using the day-use areas.

You get what you pay for. $13 per night.

Tomorrow, Ginger is going to book Frontier Town in Ocean City MD. August 2015, 7 nights, $616. That stings. But the free water park and shuttle bus are a big plus. Hotels in that area area crazy high $$. So I guess it's proportional. It's been to long since we been to the beach, can't wait.

That looks like fun camping on the beach . . .

Most of the time we stay at state park campgrounds, national forest campgrounds or RV parks which range from $20 to $50 per night.

Now, when we stay at campgrounds or RV parks in popular resort areas, $50 to $70 per night seems to be the norm!

Still much less than a hotel room . . .

Of course, nowadaze if you want to stay in any popular area with an RV you have to book 6-8 months minimum in advance to reserve a spot!

JWalker,
Let us know how this goes. We are thinking about this place next year and we are 41 feet. I just looked and they are booked for full hook up all summer. I am curious if it is easy for big rigs to get into that place. Thanks

We average less than $20/day and fuss when the price gets to $30-$40. We rarely use COE CGs so everything is pretty much commercial. We like basic CGs, don't need all the fluff and are able to entertain ourselves. We have noticed that prices have crept up in the last year or 2.

FrontierTown is an awesome place. Very kid friendly. Very busy and crowded. Lots of stuff to do. Free shuttle to the boardwalk. We have been the about 15-20 times. Through, never with our current rig (41'7"). Be very selective on your site and book early!!!

Up the road a mile or two is Castaways Campground. Also very nice. Newer style. Bigger sites. Not as much for the kids but very nice. A little quieter. I would recommend also.

You should check out the Maryland Heartland Rally in June. At Ramblin Pines campground. Very nice. Lots of great Heartland people.

Hope to see you and that new Gateway bunkhouse down the road.

TT ran a black Friday special this past year, $399 for any one zone. So far we've spent two weeks in the Wildwood, FL location, and before we head home we'll spend another two weeks in a TT. Even if we don't spend another night in a TT park (doubtfull) that's still only $15/night. The parks are pretty basic. Grass sites, full hookup, no cable or wifi, but we have all we need.
