Not going to recommend this to anyone, but since the 70's I have almost always pulled the seal out the same way. I have probably pulled well over a thousand bearings and seals using this method.
- Remove cotter pin
- remove nut and washer
- pull rotor or drum (had them when I started)
- put nut back on spindle about 2 turns
- put rotor or drum back on spindle over the nut
- push rotor towards the backing plate and then sharply pull it towards me, sliding the bearing along the spindle.
- This will pop the seal and leave the bearing on the spindle.
