Window Awnings

Looking into adding window awnings on the door side slide. Has anyone done this? I couldn't find a thread via a search on window awning.

I'm considering the following configurations: 1). One awning the full width of the two windows - not sure if we should go with 18" or 30"; 2). Two awnings both installed at the same height even though window over chair area is not tall or 3). Two awnings installed matching the window's height.

On our 08 BC we had the individual window awnings but on our 12 BC, we elected to go with a full awning covering the entire slide which made a huge difference in weather protection. Look at the August HL calendar to see our coach.

Do you recall what length you got? From window end to end for the two windows it is 120" which would mean we would have to order an 11' awning because of added width needed for the brackets but I don't think we have enough width available at the top considering the slide topper brackets.

I've never looked at the calendar - where do I find it?

And when you had the two awnings were they at different heights?

I found the calendar - looks beautiful but you added a full patio awning not a window awning - correct? We are looking to add a window awning. Saw this done on a Newmar fifth wheel at Traverse Bay RV Resort here in MI and really liked it. Wish I had taken a picture of it. Came with the coach - Carefree window awning. Coach was similar in color to our BC (but full paint!!!) - awning had a horizontal stripe (black, grey and white). I think it was only 18" but all the sites indicate that if you have a tall window you should get the 30". The Newmar had similar window configurations - dinette was a tall window. Carefree also has full view window awning that come in black - the BC has a black patio awning.

Our dealership ordered the 2nd awning from Dometic which is the manufacturer of the factory installed awning over the door. The reason we elected to go full instead of individual windows is because the individual window depending on the time of day didn't shade the window from the sun. We have better shade protection with the full awning which is also electric. On the back window we have a pull down shade on the outside which covers the entire window.

Let me take a picture of it tomorrow and send it to you. It's a shade, not an awning that is attached to the camper and pulls down between the ladder and the window. Another words, it's inside of the ladder.

Here are the pictures of the back window shade. We have by accident traveled with the shade down without any problems.

That looks great! We could really use it as the rear of our coach will be facing west when we are in FL this winter. Where did you get this?

Thanks for taking the pics :)

It's a carefree shade so I guess you can get it anywhere but we got ours from RVS For Less in Knoxville, TN. If I remember correctly with the installation, it was less that $400 (shade was nearly $300) but that was over 2 years ago. Sure beats throwing a beach towel over the back window on very hot days.

Theresa, we opted for a single awning to cover both windows. Since they are custom made, you really need to measure your slide. There are instructions on the CW website. Ours has been on for several years and we recently replaced the fabric with the shade pro fabric very similar to those shades that hang from a patio awning. While it's nice to be able to see out easier, they are not as "waterproof" as the regular awning fabric so in heavy rain, we now need to make sure the rain isn't coming in or close the windows. If we were to do it over, I'd replace with regular awning fabric.
The awning covering both windows is a better option in my humble opinion.

Thanks. I hadn't heard that you could get custom made. Per the CW website, I could only order in 1 foot increments if we get the full length awning. You must have gotten the cloth fabric which was what I was considering too. How long are the arms - 18 or 30? And does your slide have the tall window over the dinette?

We were considering the Full View fabric especially if we get the 30". Would be from Carefree. Is yours A&E or Carefree?
