Hello,

I need help with this decision.

I'm looking into ordering a 2011 GM 3500 single tire 18" wheels. Should I put the 6 inch step rails on it. Yes or Na.

Thanks,
Mike

I have the 2011 GM 3500 18" wheels and put 5" Big Country rails on. It makes it much easier for me to get in and out, and my wife could not get in or out without the steps.

We have step bars on ours too. I wish I had the extended versions so I could reach stuff in the bed. They sure do make it easier to get in and out of the truck. Especially for the "older" folks.

Heck, I'm 6'4" and only 29 And I have to use the step to get into our F-450 with 19.50". all these trucks just sit real high.

I have the stainless WTW (wheel to wheel) steps on my 2500HD and wouldn't trade them for anything. Pricey, sure... but being able to reach stuff in the bed is SO worth it to me. Before we had them my wife complained about getting in the truck, and it was no picnic for me either.

Subjectively, I also think they look better than the non WTW versions of the same steps.

I don't want to tell Connie yet, but her Christmas Present is Bigger then a

YES, unless you and the wife are taller than most NBA players. This is a 2009 with 17" tires and it's still a good rise to the step.

John....I like the looks of your black step rails. That is my next purchase and I am undecided between the black or the stainless. Also, are those blacked out clearance lights on your truck? Factory or aftermarket? I like it.

Jamie, those clearance lights are the new style sealed LED's. I guess they do look blacked out, though. The steps were dealer installed, part of my order, along with a spray-in bedliner. I liked the look of the black ones rather than the stainless steel.

Just be careful when you order your step rails that they will fit the new truck due to the location of the DEF tank. I know our Chevy dealer said they had trouble finding step rails that don't rub on the DEF tank.

Thanks NavyAZ, I took delivery of my 3500 last week, WOW, What a sweettt ride it is... I went with the 6 inch rails and every thing seams to be in order, but I will take a look at it tonight..
I will be putting on my hitch next week, I have to order some new frame supports and get time to work under her. My Ford was 2 inch higher then this truck and road level, so I think I will be in good shape with the same curt hitch.

My vote is the box access step. I use mine all the time and for my truck I had to make it myself becaus I could not find any that went wheel to wheel for the LWB trucks.

Another option would be Lauvern SS running boards and Box boards for the bed. I've had them on a couple of trucks and they last and look good.
