Activities in close proximity to the campground include:

Keeneland Spring Meet https://www.keeneland.com/racing If you haven't seen Thoroughbred horse racing in person it's well worth the time. Some of us plan on going on Thursday leaving the campground between 10:30 and 11am. All are welcome to join us!

Kentucky Bourbon Trail http://kybourbontrail.com/ Tours of distilleries (including sampling if you care to imbibe). This is very interesting even if you're not a bourbon drinker.

Toyota Georgetown Plant Tour http://toyotaky.com/tour.asp This one hour tour will show you how Toyota builds 2000 cars each day.
Reservations made for 30 people to tour Friday morning at 9:30.

HEARTLAND GIVES BACK

Great place to have a rally. The campground has a huge covered staged area for assembly and there is so much to due in the area. If you want to go to the Toyota plant for a tour, book early. They fill up quickly. And the Bourbon Trail (http://www.kentuckytourism.com/dining/bourbon.aspx?gclid=CJCLzPKuq9ACFQ2TaQodXV0KEQ) is alot of fun. Unfortunately we have a conflict and won't be able to come :(.

Besides going to a race at Keeneland, some other items to do include:

Visit Old Friends (https://www.oldfriendsequine.org/) to feed carrots to the retired thoroughbreds.

https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/2014-Travel/Old-Friends-Equine/i-TMRwqMC/0/L/IMG_2911-L.jpg

Not officially a Bourbon Trail stop, but Buffalo Trace distillery (http://www.buffalotrace.com/) in Frankfort is a great trip to make.

https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/2014-Travel/Buffalo-Trace-Distillery/i-nKsLNXL/0/L/IMG_4120-L.jpg

Another interesting side trip is to head over to Keeneland at oh-dark-thirty and watch them warm up the horses (http://www.keeneland.com/discover/morning-workouts). You pretty much have the run of the place and can rub elbows with various owners and trainers. Fun photography trip, as well. The dogwoods and redbuds are usually both in full bloom mid- to late-April. They also have guided tours a couple days a week.

The Kentucky Horse Park (http://www.kyhorsepark.com/) is pretty close, as well. Makes a fun day excursion.

It's difficult to make plans for some things (like touring the Toyota factory) without having a good estimation of the number attending. But group activities like the Bourbon Trail and Keeneland will kind of organize themselves if someone posts that they would like to do it.
That said, I will be setting up a tour of the Georgetown Toyota factory for (Apr 21) Friday and ask anyone wishing to go to just let me know.

I'm not a golfer but I know there are a number of courses in close proximity so if anyone wants to set up an outing that will be great too.

We'll provide the meat for a pot luck on Saturday evening and also host a continental breakfast on Sunday morning.

I'm expecting to add to this list as we get a bit closer and welcome any suggestions!

And a quick update:
Reservations have been made for 30 people to tour the Toyota factory on Friday 4/21 at 9:30am.
It's just a few minute drive from the campground and there is no charge for the tour. The tour is given by tram so anyone concerned about walking it shouldn't be a problem.

I just spoke to the campground and they are concerned that they may have mislead some of you to believe sites weren't available.
There are still plenty of spaces (even pull-throughs) available though they aren't able to put us all in the same area.
If you encounter any problems making your reservation please let me know right away!

Mike,
I spent a lengthy period on the phone today going down the list one by one and they discovered that your rig won't fit on site 5. On my list you are now on 219 which will also be in the area of Heartland folks. If there is a site that you would rather have please give them a call and they will do their best to accommodate you. Ask for Ann or Monica.

I was told that the person that handled a number of the reservations was just an operator and didn't have all the information needed to handle our group. Hopefully it's all been resolved and everyone will have a site they can enjoy.

We are now showing 15 rigs attending the rally. A few of you have indicated you want to go to the Toyota plant tour Friday morning. It would be most helpful if everyone interested in going would let me know via private message and the number of people. (If you don't get a response from me I didn't get the message.)The tour website says kids must be at least in 1st grade!
I asked for 30 positions for the tour and MIGHT be able to increase that if I find out soon enough. Surprisingly, there were already tours scheduled for our day when I called 3 months in advance so I can't promise any extra positions. Again, there is NO CHARGE for the tour.

A very important part of the Heartland Owners Club is the Heartland Gives Back function at each of our rallies.
We have selected Ronald McDonald House of the Bluegrass to be the recipient of our generosity! Kentucky being such a rural state the need for families to use Ronald McDonald house while a child is in the UK Children's Hospital is huge. Although the facilities can be found worldwide, the individual Houses depend heavily on support from the local community.
Here is the link to Ronald McDonald House of the Bluegrass (http://rmhclexington.com/)

The House is hoping to be able to send a representative to tell us about the services they provide to families. They have a number of events they are participating in that weekend which may not leave someone available. If you're not familiar with their work, please take a minute to look at their website. It's heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. A truly worthy cause!

Items they are currently in need of are:

Leslie and I were disappointed when we discovered our rallies were going to be the same weekend. WOW!!!! WOW!!!! and WOW!!!!
Leslie just presented the donation collection box (as well as the box and shopping bag of consumables) from our rally to the Ronald McDonald House of the Bluegrass.
The total monetary contributions came to: $418!!!
Because of the amazing generosity of Heartland Owners Club members we were able to fund one of the Dream Big items on their list!

Leslie and I are so proud and humbled to be a part of a group that cares so much about others. Thank you to the Kentucky rally attendees and thank you to all club members for giving back to those less fortunate

Very nice!! It was nice meeting everyone. The park has been kind of empty since you all left. As if people do not want to be here now that the cool kids have all left!

Glad y'all were able to join us!

I suspect we'll see each other frequently without our pesky jobs interfering now and looking forward to it.
