Bighorn 3270 - Missing Fantastic Fan

We just picked up a 2017 3270RS which we ordered in December with a build date of Feb. 20. The kitchen 3 speed temperature controlled fan with rain sensor, listed as a standard item, was not installed. I spoke with a factory service rep and was told 'we recently changed the style of roof from laminated to structure' and the fan is no longer installed. Does this make sense ? Anyone else with a recent build that has had a similar experience ? Had I known this, we would have ordered the optional fantastic fan in the bathroom.

Just a heads up for future orders.....

Hi mkeller1,

Congratulations on the new Bighorn and welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum.

It's possible the roof structure might have been changed on the 3270RS, but even if it was, that wouldn't explain not having a fan. The Fantastic Fan has been used on non-laminated roof structures. So the person you spoke with may not have gotten it quite right.

The coffered ceiling shown in the pictures of the 3270 might be more likely as the reason. And I don't see the Fantastic Fan in those pictures. The list of standard features and options is a little confusing when it comes to the 3 speed fan because the text is split across 2 bullets in the list, but it does look like the 3 speed fan is optional for the bathroom. I don't see a mention of a living room fan.

It's very possible that a change in features was made as the factory started transitioning to 2018 models. Your build was probably very close to the end of 2017 and startup of 2018 builds.

There are no doubt other 2017 3270RS owners who can chime in on whether their rig came with a kitchen Fantastic Fan.

Our 3270 is in the pipeline. Without a kitchen fan I'll be very unhappy. I'll want a good explanation or something might have happen.

We also ordered at 3270 a week and a half ago, we did order a Coffered Ceiling and a Fantastic Fan in the bathroom. I'm confused also, does this mean that I get a roof exhaust fan in the kitchen?

I also noticed on the new order sheet that the Fantastic Fan looks like it comes standard on the 2018 Bighorn's on the Premier Package, when I ordered mine it was an option.

my concern is with stationary window over the stove top and and eliminating the kitchen roof Fan how do you how do you get rid of kitchen odors.

Don't know about the roof fan but there is still an exhaust fan over the stove to remove odors.

I thought that the ceiling kitchen fan came standard in the 3270's I didn't see anything on the order sheet that said anything about a fan in the kitchen as an option.

The exhaust fan on the microwave over is marginal.

Our 2017 3270 with the laminated roof and coffered ceiling did too but HL no longer uses that roof construction style
The sales brochure though says 3 speed fan. Unsure if standard equipment or an option

We have had posts here from the current Bighorn Product manager. If someone on the forum can't supply his contact info quickly, I would suggest to the original poster that he call Heartland and ask to talk to the "Bighorn Product Manager". He has the final say on the Bighorn product, and what should and should not be included.

Hey, if the new roof construction solves the ceiling ducting flow throughput problem, then the loss of the fantastic fan may be worth the sacrifice?

Sorry everyone - just trying to catch up on these emails regarding the 3270. With the design of the new roof, the stack of rafters, the roof break and the way the coffered ceiling lays out - the vent fan had to be eliminated. We do still have the microwave fan and we have an option for a fantastic fan in the bathroom. As things are changing quickly in our efforts to make the BH brand more energy efficient, I forgot about that detail. The 3010 is the same way and won't be available. As for the rest of the floor plans the vent fan remains....

So is the microwave fan vented to the outside of the Rv? And what is the advantage or reason for the new roof design?

thanks ,

Dave

ps We have a 3270 RS in the pipeline 🤗

Thanks for the questions Dave. The microwave does not vent outside. I'm not sure if its possible but I will ask engineering in the morning to get more details on that.

As for the roof design it basically comes down to improving efficiency. With coaches getting bigger and bigger the need for efficient systems is more important than ever before. We ( I ) am also working on a cost effective EMS ( energy management system ) which will allow us to WIRE & FRAME for a third air conditioner. This way dealers can order with two 15,000 BTU a/c's for stocking purposes and if the retail customer would like the dealer can add the third 15,000 BTU a/c at the time of purchase. ( or really anytime since the wire & frame would be standard )

With more and more Bighorn customers " chasing the sun " cooling is becoming a bigger and bigger topic. So the roof change really just gives us some additional flexibility we didn't have with the laminated version. Our R-Values have increased overall and our overall weigh decreased marginally but it did decrease some.... Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of the replies and especially to Tom for providing some insight. My disappointment is that I was not aware of the change and I would have ordered the fantastic fan in the bath had I known. I have contacted Heartland warranty service and made arrangements to have the bath vent swapped out for the fantastic fan.

I was pleasantly surprised to get the Furrion appliances. There IS an outside vent for the microwave, although I have not tested that out yet.

Is there ANY vent in the kitchen ceiling. That is besides the microwave vent fan.

I Just picked up my bighorn end of feb- and the microwave exhaust fan vents to outside- has 2 speeds and seemed to work well for me- It did good job of getting odor out while dicing an onion and good job of removing heat while oven going ( cooking enchiladas-with onions, and 2 pots on the stove )

Was yours a 2017? Because the order that l sent in might be a 2018 model that I will be receiving

So what happens to people that purchase a 2016 or 2017 (ours is an early 2017 build a year ago) with the leaky tiki duct system that fails at cooling the trailer. Any plan to addresses these known issues that are now being addressed with a new design?

We purchased our trailer in good faith that the Bighorn was a better than average product.
