Anyone that understands Kircoff's law and battery characteristics know that a 50amp breaker in the inverter charging circuit that is capable of more than 50 amps is poor design on Heartlands part.
Does that take into account a battery charger, refrigerator, water heater and other electrical appliances running at the same time? I doubt that it could handle two 13,500 btu A/c's while running other normally running appliances. The battery charger alone draws considerable power if the...
Generally speaking generators have a lousy power factor rating. Which means they can not handle inductive loads like an air conditioner as well as power from a pedestal which has power factor near 1. Some generators with the same power rating are better than other with power factor. With your...
I would think this would give a marketing advantage to independed and moble service organizations that will provide service to anyone. Dealers that will not service units that they did not sell should be put on notice. I don't like the word boycott, but they make it difficult not to use that...
To check for a bent spindle. Measure the tires on the front center and rear center of the tires on the same axle. The measurement should be the same. Also make sure the centering pin on the springs is not sheared and the axle is actually in the center of the spring. Your pictures appear to be a...
Terminal strips with crimped lugs using proper crimping tools with junction box for mobile and marine applications. The stuff in hardware stores are intended for homes using wire intended for home not mobile installations--especially with stranded wire. Your truck does not use wire nuts for a...
That is the problem with twist on connectors. If they are not properly installed they will heat up an cause problems. This is a cheap way out for manufacturers for doing electrical connections. Many trailer mfg's adopt this method to reduce production costs.
My hanger was starting to crack at the weld and I caught it in time. My question is: what is Heartland doing to beef up the suspension. -- I am reading too many posts on this forum about suspension failures. I see other mfgs are beefing up their suspensions with cross members.
I have found a few that way. So I fill the fresh water tank with that low pressure water and use my trailer pump to supply water from my fresh water tank. Fortunately, most campgrounds have reasonable pressure. That way I still have pristine water.
Road hazzards is one cause of alignment problems. Bent axel spindle, sheared pin in leaf springs, weight distribution and etc. One should inspect all suspension components periodically as well as perform basic measurements. Trailer syspensions are not as robust as they should be. Also an good...
If you want your water softner bed of beads to last, put at least a 5 micron filter before the softener. Other wise you will get a lot of sand in the softener from some campgrounds. Also, you might consider a heavy .5 micron carbon/biological filter for your cold water in your sink for drinking...
Re: Why different voltages on L1 & L2 in Landmark when using Honda EU7000IS Inverter
As mentioned neutral bonding is the problem. Generators built for RV's do not have neutral and ground bonded at the generator. Generators built for contractors have neutral and ground bonded at the generator.
My motorhome had a 3KW inverter that ran on 4 Group 27 batteries with 1/0 cables from the batteries to the inverter. It was intended to run the microwave (briefly), TV and lighting. It would run an air conditioner for a several minutes before draining the batteries if they were on that power...
I agree--- there are other mfg's that are more forthright about their pricing and construction detail. It is a mystery to me why Heartland is so secretive about their construction and pricing. I get the feeling they are trying to hide something... :-)
this is one example-- https://www.amazon.com/battery-watering-system/s?page=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Abattery%20watering%20system
highly recommend it if your batteries are not easily accessible.
I did the math with propane furnace at 80% and electric at 90% efficiency. Propane at $3.34/gal and electricity at $0.14/KWH would the break even point.
Just make certain the lead acid batteries have the proper amount of water at ALL times. Trickle, 4stage auto-chargers and solar are the best way to keep the charge to proper levels when unattended. Battery life also degrades when the batteries are left less than 80% charge.
As a rule of thumb surge or start current is usually twice and sometime 3X the running current depending the winding inductance. Also it generally will last long enough to blow a circuit breaker of fuse that is not rated to handle it. Also if a generator is not rated to handle surge current they...
What is a long time? If it has not run for a year +- a few months and the carb was not drained properly, the carborator is gumed up and needs to be replaced or removed and the ports and jets need to be thoughly cleaned up. Today's gasoline with 10% ethonal is death to carborators that are used...
That site works for my 2012 truck, but does not seem to be for the 2018 trucks. For example the Combined weight is significantly different. https://www.ford.com/trucks/super-duty/models/f350-king-ranch/
It depends on which Transfer switch is used: When my generator is in use I always hear a thud from the relays kicking in, but I hear nothing when connecting to shore power. I don’t know which transfer switch I have. It is better to have a high power relay contacts normally closed before applying...
Keep the TV FOB nearby to sound the horn in case of an intrusion/invasion. The sound of the horn will cause the Campers to look out their window to see what is going on and the intruder will most likely disappear with that much noise and bystander attention. Use of fire arms is not a good idea...
Those who are not trained in electronics should not play theorists that are not helpful. Most electronics are deeply rooted in mathematics. Circuit breakers trip when there is too much demand for their current rating or the they are failing to handle the designed current. I think the OP should...
I must be missing something. Why turn off the breakers inside the trailer before connecting shore power? I have never done that and what exactly is causing the so called spiking? I am not aware of anything in the 12v system that would create that kind of back EMF that would trip that 50 amp...
If a manufacturer is paying for warrenty repairs, I would think they would invest more in Quality Control and employee training to cut down warrenty costs. Surly they are keeping track of warranty costs--- at least they should be.
I would like to mention that eualizers only distribute the weight equally if the trailer is being towed level. The RoadMaster system may be more tolorant for out of level towing. One needs to compare the two systems on a Cat Scale for both level and non-level towing situations. Also monitoring...
This does not speak for the dealer or manufacturer. Now the customer has to return the trailer and wait for who knows how long to get the problems corrected. That is a real PITA and I would think both the dealer and manufacturers would do a better job of QC. I know that all RV's are built by...
Looks good. Slipper springs is an old technology and is proven. The question is how well Roadmaster engineered the components. I suspect they have done a good job based on my experience with that company in the past. It should be an improvement over standard equalizer suspensions, and has...
Our cat does a good job with the mice when we are snow birding. When in storage, I use moth balls in several location through the trailers. Have not seen the presence of mice for years.
My F350 SRW does a great job pulling my 16200# trailer. Everything is with in Fords spec but the Combined weight which is 200# over with full fuel, passenger, generator and tools in the bed. However, I run with empty gray an black water tanks with less than 1/4 fresh water. The new 2017-18 F350...
As a past dual pane owner that will never get them again, I have determined that they are a very bad investement... RVs that travel are not a good platform for dual pane. The flexing and twisting an RV experiences is most likely the cause of the leaks. It is much better to shade standard...
I had the 7500watt version of that generator in my motorhome. I found it to be very reliable and effiecient--Onan builds a great generator. Nice job installing it as well. My only question is: can the Landmark frame handle the extra weight of that generator while traveling? Between its heavy...
You should be thankful that you did not have bearing failure that would lead to loosing a tire and causing an accident. The Easy Lube marketing scam is a bad joke that could cause an accident.
Using ferrious screws and bolts that rust is a cost saving effort by RV mfgs. Stainless steel screws would cost a few dallors more. Then to add insult to injury they use grade 3 and 5 bolts on the suspension instead of grade 7 like the TV. As a compromise the mfgs. could offer a "build it...
I had one hanger that developed a small hairline crack after 60,000 miles that I had spot welded. I think I caught it in time and have put many miles since repair with no further problems. I highly recomend that the hanger be checked ffrequently for cracks. I think it is sad that there are too...
Most RV trailer mfg.'s are selling with Easylube. I think they are doing a dis-service to their customers. When I purchased my trailer, I didn't know better and greased the bearing as recommended by the mfg. using the Easylube method. After burning out a bearing in the first year on the...
