Looking at the 2014 3800 with arctic package

My wife and I are looking at doing some semi-fulltime living and were considering moving away from a toy-hauler into a traditional 5th wheel, in the hopes of getting better R values for cold weather. I just happened to hear about the arctic package available in the Cyclone and was curious about...

Yeah, the pump is ticking (actually clacking) loudly....seems louder than previously.

    Generator Fuel Pump failure?

I was winterizing my 2008 Cyclone 3210 and had the generator running when it suddenly died. It had good oil in it and it would crank, but not fire. I assumed either spark or fuel, so I took the fuel line off and blew back through it. I was also able to suck gas out. I hooked the pump back up...

    F350 vs F450

Ted You can tell if your exhaust brake is working by looking at your Turbo PSI while going downhill. When it is working, you will see the PSI read about 4 PSI. As you know, when going downhill with your foot off the gas, you would normally read 0 PSI. The 4 PSI that you are seeing is...

    Got a new tow rig!

My wife got us a new tow rig yesterday for Father's day! A new (to us) 2011 F-350 King Ranch. I can't wait to get the hitch installed next week and hook 'er up! The warranty was about up on the 2005 6.0, so I was getting more than a little concerned about the bills that may arise from issues...

    Under belly heating

I also have a 3210 and am taking mine hunting in a week. It looks like the temps should be around 25 at night. I plan on using the heater to keep the camper at about 40 degrees at night. Do you think I'll have a problem with freezing? I winterized it to be on the safe side, but I'll...

Question for you Ford 6.0 PSD

I just installed the Edge Insight CTS with the EGT Probe, changed the tranny fluid, engine oil and put new tires on the Cyclone.....I'm ready for hunting season! I didn't realize before having the Edge that the torque converter locks up in 4th gear, as well, when in Tow/Haul mode....that's good...

    Winter camping

This is my first year with the Cyclone and plan on taking it hunting in late October. I was wondering if anyone has tips or tricks for camping in the winter with water...or do you just dry camp and haul it in jugs....I am planning on bringing jugs but would value your suggestions.

    Water pump issue

I wouldn't call this a Heartland quality issue. These pumps are used in just about ALL campers. I have your same problem, though. Twice now I have seen water come in next to my steps. The pump will keep pumping after it has already hit full pressure and will then leak out. For me, the...

    Cyclone Wheels question

I'm wondering if anyone could tell me what PSI/load rating my wheels have...it's a 2008 Cyclone 3210 with the stock 15" aluminum wheels. The reason I ask is that I am due for new tires and want to go to an E rated tire, but I don't know if I'll be able to get the use out of them if I can't put...

    Air bags vs mono-shock

    what tire?

Ultrafarmer, Did you go with the Load Range D or E? I have a 3210 as well and am having a hard time finding E rated tires around here. I need to check to see if the rims can handle the air pressure of E rated tires, too....

Question for you Ford 6.0 PSD

I like the fact that the tow/haul mode downshifts when going downhill, but does it bother anyone when it does it to the point that the engine is revving at 3800-4000 RPM? It bothers me.... Also, I can't seem to go up Wilkerson Pass at greater than 45-50 MPH, which is a 5.8% grade, with a 14K...

    6.0 Ford and 4.30 gears

I realize this is a bit old, but I haven't really heard definitively if the 4.30s were a good move or not. I have an '05 F-250 with the 6.0 and the same tire setup (2008 f350 wheels and tires) and am thinking about moving from 3.73 gears to 4.30s. My truck seems like a bit of a dog going up...

    Brake Controller Fault

    gooseneck

It has to do with the amount of torque being put on it when pulling or stopping. The gooseneck hitch has more vertical length than the fifth wheel hitch. This straight up-and-down distance allows more torque on the frame where the hitch mounts to the trailer. It would not be a big deal if the...

    Brake Controller Fault

That is the next thing that I will be going to go through. I didn't think the grease would cause a problem either, but it definitely had an impact. It was almost constantly "alarming" telling me to check the trailer and "trailer fault". As soon as I cleaned all of it out, it was intermittent...

    Brake Controller Fault

I've done a lot of troubleshooting on this one and keep having issues with it. I have completely eliminated the factory plug where the new plug in the bed connects to the plug at the bumper. That is all run straight through now. The truck tests fine when the dealer plugs in their tester. The...

    Blew the turbo

I got the truck out of the shop on Wednesday and was able to pull the camper back home! I asked the tech if there was anything that I could have done to prevent it and he said it was just ready to go. Nothing else caused the problem except for a bad turbo. He said there were chunks of metal...

    Blew the turbo

I hear ya! It is a long climb. I actually stopped in Woodland Park and let the turbo cool for about 10 minutes before shutting it off. Then it was the pull up Wilkerson. I kept an eye on the temps and it all seemed ok right up until it went.

    Blew the turbo

I was going up Wilkerson Pass in Colorado, pulling a loaded Cyclone 3210....about 13,500 lbs. The pull up Wilkerson is long and steep. 50 mph was about all I could do. The turbo psi was at about 21 and the engine was running at about 26-2700 RPM. I didn't feel like I was pushing it very...

    Blew the turbo

We were heading up Wilkerson Pass in Colorado on our way to Buena Vista and blew the turbo on the truck in my sig. 3210 couch slideout leak

I noticed on our last trip a bit of moisture on the carpet at the rear part of the couch area, towards the garage door, after a heavy rain the night before. When looking at the slide from the outside, I can see that the water is most likely running in along the seam at the bottom of the slide...

    No water?

I wish this one of these was the problem. I filled it for about 15 minutes until the monitor read full (the fresh is accurate, the black holding doesn't read accurate). The camper was parked with the passenger side high on a curb to get it further off the street, so the drain was on the...

    No water?

The drain valve was closed when we arrived at the campsite. I opened it to check and a small splurt came out and that was it. It was dry. Unfortunately, it had rained the night before so it was wet all around and I didn't notice anything strange. Yesterday, when I got home, I filled the tank...

    No water?

So I brought the trailer home last Thursday evening to load up with food, fill the water and put fresh bedding on since we were leaving the next day for a long weekend of dry camping, which is how we usually roll. No problems. Got up to the campsite Friday night, got it leveled and turned on...

    Brake Controller Fault

I do have a plug in the bed, but I traced the wiring and it is spliced in with the original. The original plug at the bumper exhibited the same symptoms. I am second guessing whether this will fix it, but I'll know tonight when I hook up.

    Brake Controller Fault

I pulled apart the connector that the truck company installed for me a couple of years ago and found that two of the pins were badly corroded and one of them had actually broken off inside. For now, I bypassed the plug and hard wired those in. We'll see if that fixes my problem. It's amazing...

    Brake Controller Fault

I've been searching for information about my truck's issue with the brake controller. I am using the stock brake controller on my 2005 F250. This is the third trailer that it has done this on, so I am now absolutely positive that it is the truck and not the trailer. The last previous trailer...

    Adjusting Shackles

I recall reading that not all of them do. Just take a look at your shackles and see if you have holes below where your springs are mounted to your shackles. If so, you can drop the springs down to one of the holes to raise the camper. Mine probably still won't be completely level, but it will...
