I have own a 2011 Chev 3500HD for he last few years. I bought it new and the only problems I have had were with the exhaust system (DPF and DEF). Great truck as long as your working it but short trips around town do not create the heat it needs for the exhaust. I used to be a Ford guy but as...
I'll clarify two little details. In Canada we use Imperial Gallons which are bigger than US gallons (20% more) so we will get what appears to be better mileage but is really just a number thingy. Secondly our diesel is higher quality than yours. Something I didn't know until the fuel injection...
Re: Trip to Alaska & Youkon
Chicken is named that because they couldn't decide on how to spell Ptarmigan and the native name of the place was Ptarmigan Creek. When I was a kid Tok was often called Tok Cut Off but I know of no other name it ever had. BTW Tok is native for "peaceful crossing"...
We have a 2011 Chevy 3500 Diesel and we pull a Trail Runner so we have the same engine etc but a considerably lighter trailer. We just finished a 2700 Km (1680 miles) trip and averaged around 15mpg which I thought was pretty good since most of the trip was through mountains with heavy grades. My...
Re: Trip to Alaska & Youkon
Gas stations come and go on the highway, some are open one year then closed the next, so carry some spare fuel in jerry cans. Also the price of gas North of Ft. St. John starts to get quite high. My wife and I chose to fill up at smaller stations rather than in...
We live on an acreage and have a few wild cats around so as long as they have acess to the underside of the trailer (not allowed inside ever) we don't have a mouse problem.
Re: Trip to Alaska & Youkon
Well we went to Alaska and back and our trailer managed the trip quite well. Construction on some of the highways ment ruff roads now and then but all in all the roads were far better than the last time I traveled them 30 years ago.
That's kinda true for air filters. Without getting into a lot of technobabble lets just say that a clogged air filter will cause your engine to be starved of air and run poorly but a clogged fuel filter will more likely will leave you paying for a tow truck. Filters are cheap, breakdowns are not.
Not surprised. From my experience 9 times out of 10 Ford replaces the whole tranny if it's warranty. We change quite a few and most would have lived longer if the filters and oil had been changed more often but the Ford people say to follow their schedule sooo...well we change quite a few Ford...
I work as a mechanic and when it comes to filters my answer is always the same...what's more expensive, new filters or a tow job on the first day of your vacation. Filters are cheap, break downs not only cost more but happen at the worst times. And befor anyone asks I can make a lot more money...
I wouldn't put the project on hold. First go to the Ford site and make sure you have all the right specs, then double check weight of the trailer you are pulling. Then talk to people who have a simular truck and pull a trailer. I work on a lot of Fords and I think the truck you want to use will...
Can you post a picture so we can see what's going on? Have you tried turning the bolt around so the head is on the side of the pipe? Or if that don't work maybe try a carrage bolt?
I will look at our trailer tomorow and see how it's set up and if there is a solution.
In the comments there was a guy who said he takes a few traffic cones with him. When he parks he sets out the cones to keep other people from blocking him in. It sounds like a cheap and easy solution to the problem.
We have the outdoor kitchen (it was the final tipping point on which model we would buy) and it comes with a small BBQ the mounts to the side of the trailer. I plan on adding a bigger BBQ and mount so thanks for posting the link and pictures.
The big rigs are on the road all the time and seldom do they sit still for more than a day (it aint makin money if it aint movein). The also are a lot heavier and have considerably bigger bearings. I'll stick to grease in any axel under 14k lbs. since it is cheaper, it works and it has less...
Re: Trip to Alaska & Youkon
My wife and I are going to the Yukon in August to visit my brother, who lives at Hains Jct. If anyone else is going at that time we would be glad to offer help or advice or even just share a few steaks on the BBQ.
In the trucking business tire are a major expense so truckers go to great lengths to make them last as long as possible. For that reason truckers are not generally satisfied with a mere alignment but got to shops that "center line" their axels. This is done by finding the center of the vehicle...
I have worked with heavy equipment all my life and when I get someone new as a spotter (the person on the ground directing) I tell them there are 2 sides to heavy equipment...the operators side and the suicide. Gets the point across and maybe that's what needs to be said to those spotters who...
My Beautiful wife (MBW) and I just bought our first camper trailer this week. We looked at a lot of campers and a lot of different brands and we decided on a Trail Runner 25OSK. We plan to travel a lot over the next few years and we wanted a trailer that was comfortable for 2 people but still...
I picked up my Chevy 3500 for less than a 2500 with the same options. I bought it midsummer when the new model lines were coming out soon and I was looking for a diesel extended cab with a full size box. Most of the customers in the 3500 market are either contractors who want a 4 door with the...
