    Residential Fridge/Solar

My research says you need 800w of solar for the fridge alone plus adequate amp hours of battery for the night. There are several brands of 12v compressor fridges now that are in residential format and If I was looking at boondocking I might consider total cost involved to boondock with a...

I also swapped the 100amp battery monitor shunt for the 300amp Juntek VAT 1300. It worked very well wirelessly but I think the current is reading backwards in/out so I guess I flubbed the orientation... I will get install pix of that and screen operation when I re-do the wiring...

    CarterKraft TQ290 mod thread

I finally got around to adding the 120v power monitor. I put it between the transfer switch and the panel so I will always have current reading either from the generator or shore power. It's easy enough to install as it clips around the wire, no wire removal needed. I sleeved the inside of it...

    Project LM 365

It sounded so right in my head LOL. I even looked Jerrods dash to make sure  - - - Updated - - - Man I hate it when a easy job goes like that. I would have thought that those holes would be perfectly aligned.

    Project LM 365

Thanks Jerrod, you didn't have to run out and do that but I do appreciate it. The 2000 RPM @ 70 looks like 1000-1500 less than the 4.10's I currently am running. That makes the 450 a little more attractive among other things. With my trailer at 13k and payload up around 4k I don't think I...

    Project LM 365

Any idea as the RPM at 70 with the 4.30 gears and 10 speed in 10th? After getting the F350 with 4.10 gears I have wished I would have held out for a 3.55 truck but I had pressing deadlines and no truck... With the 3 overdrives vs the 2 of the previous 6 speed it might be enough to keep...

new solar install - question for those who installed panels on roof

The only suggestion not already covered is whether or not you want your panel fasteners hidden under the panel. I cringed at that idea because any issue with the panel would require some creative wrenching to get the fastners out of the back of the panel or require the feet to be removed from...

Need a way to check battery voltage

If you are handy these style shunt meters are really useful for dry camping. https://www.amazon.com/Multifunction-Battery-Monitor-Multimeter-Voltmeter/dp/B07T9LV66P/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=12v%2Bmeter%2B300%2Bamp&qid=1574462229&sr=8-3&th=1 I have a AC version as well on the 120v lines for...

Parasitic loss in 12v battery flat overnight

Don't replace the propane detector with out confirming its amp draw as it will likely do the same thing with a new one.

Parasitic loss in 12v battery flat overnight

Propane leak detector would be my suggestion for the load that is draining your battery. It seems to be powered from a dedicated source with a fuse in the wall/cabinet it is mounted in. Go solar with the 30% tax credit for 2019 and kill two birds with one stone.

Screws holding up the Cloroplast cover

The right tool for the job. In my opinion (somewhat professional) the screws they use at the factory are the wrong screws for the application. They are far too coarse thread for the thickness of frame steel. They are also poorly coated and rust easily (cheapest vendor most likely). The...

    Outdoor Griddles

I have tried several electric griddles and none have any power outside in the wind in the cooler months. I know have the 22" unit with stand and lid. It works well enough but is heavy, too large, heavy and cumbersome to pack in the storage bag and is a decent pain to deal with. It is...

New lube product coming soon for CP4 pumps

30k mile fuel filter changes is absurd in my opinion. There is some strange language in the manual regarding water separator drain intervals noting it should be done at oil change, or when instructed by the instrument cluster. That should really say AND instead of OR.

New lube product coming soon for CP4 pumps

I occasionally dose the tank with power service but change fuel filters at 10k and drain water seperator at 5k. For those that lost pumps, what schedule were you changing/draining? My opinion is the factory interval is pretty long.

    Awning Creep

Mine did this years ago and I have not been able to get back in place. I am need of a new fabric so I hope to add screws to prevent this movement in the future. Are there any pictures of where exactly to add the screws?

Want your thoughts on this generator setup

That small diameter hose is going to add a decent amount of back pressure to your engine. Why not use the normal genturi system suction cupped to the front cap of BH? I don't think you will have any heat issues with the bed cap rail through the silicone hose.

    CarterKraft TQ290 mod thread

Yes exactly! I am going to run the converter on shore power for storage to try and keep the batteries in Float in my storage building but other than that will be off and might give us back some 30amp headroom for those less than ideal rv parks with shady power.

    Battery and dry camping

No i don't and I understand that is a pretty major issue I didn't even consider making the above post. I have seen suggestions that it takes 800w of solar to keep up with a residential fridge. That complicates the system a bit putting your optimal solar array over 1000w. That alone will...

    Battery and dry camping

2 6V GC2 batteries will go all night no problem with several hours of inverter use after dark. They will also run furnace loads overnight with ECO friendly furnace temp setting. The question will be how will you re-charge them the next day. Truck umbilical will likely not get you to 100% SOC...

    Portable AC

I have been tempted to try this but there are some requirements for me. Make sure it it is a 2 hose unit. One hose for condenser intake 1 for exhaust. I would not want any questionable venting or mounting. It needs to be secure and the vents installed somewhat permanently. I was going to use...

Best tandem axle leaf spring set up for boondocking? Load Equalizers.

Opinions vary but a traditional leaf spring trailer suspension would be the last on my list for what you are after. For decent travel and reliability standard leaf springs would not fit the bill. Just want you to have a good setup.

Best tandem axle leaf spring set up for boondocking? Load Equalizers.

A trailer from scratch I would be really tempted to use torsion axles. https://www.dexteraxle.com/products/torsion-axles Or a new comer is the axle-less Timbren axles. https://timbren.com/blog/products-page/asr35hds07/

Considering an '18 Torque T322 - any feedback?

Does anyone have any actual weights for the T322? I saw it has a 12,800 GVW and 15" tires maybe those are typos? I have a TQ290 with less options and have a GVW of 13,000. Not sure how the larger T322 would work real word when loaded for camping with more options (rear bath, larger...

    jbeletti's Sundance 262 RB

Great point, exactly the kind of detail I am not aware of in this situation. I'll do some digging. Edit: Looking at the datasheet I may have found the answer. "1b) PV voltage must exceed Vbat + 5V for the controller to start. Thereafter minimum PV voltage is Vbat + 1V." With a 12v to 12v...

    jbeletti's Sundance 262 RB

So unless there is some sort of sponsorship situation regarding the RedArc product it seems grossly overpriced ($430) for your application versus the MPPT 100/50 ($294). It also doesn't have any sort of voltage/charge level display or smart output for Bluetooth use (this would be really useful...

It seems an alternative to this product could be a MPPT solar battery charger. Electric Leveling on a Travel Trailer - anyone do this?

Not exactly what you are asking but I recently installed a DIY "Level-e-nuff" system comprised of two 7k motor home jacks at the rear behind the axles on my TT. It has been well worth the effort and has made setting up so much easier and provided a much needed solid foundation when setup. If...
