Funny you should mention that. I haven't tried to put it in the garage yet as I've been trying to clean out the garage for a few months. Here are the numbers:
Vehicle spec for 156 wheelbase: Overall Length = 246" --- My garage, wall to door clearance (accounting for hurricane brace) =...
Bought my travel trailer last year in May and stupidly bought more than I should have been towing with my 03 Yukon Denali. The TT empty is about 7200 lbs. (800 lbs. less than the max I could tow with the Denali) so I traveled with zero water in the TT and pulled out the 3rd row seat in the...
Interesting that some say it's awful while others report it's not bad at all. I wonder what the difference is.....
For me personally, I wouldn't have my dog back there even if I knew it was a comfy ride, he's a mischievous little sh*t and he would probably eat all the food and tear the place...
I agree! It's not like we spent a couple thousand that we can just walk away from when things go bad.... these are HIGH DOLLAR items we are investing our hard earned money into!
I feel so bad for you reading that. Water was a concern of mine too when I bought my TT this year and I knew it had been on the lot for a while. Thankfully, it rained pretty heavily a few days before I picked it up so I was able to see if any water was inside when I picked it up... none was...
You know.... it probably is in the RV world. I'm still a noob so I have no idea :D
I've been to the scales with my trailer and I'm right at max weight... and depending on the trip, even though I'm careful... I'd bet good money I've been over by 100 pounds a couple of times. I recently took...
What I'm wondering is if they were sitting inside looking out the windows, wondering who this nut is lurking around photographing their rig from all angles :D :p
So a while back I posted a thread about waiting for quotes from RV Dealer: https://heartlandowners.org/showthread.php/61482-How-long-is-quot-normal-quot-to-wait-for-a-repair-quote
Anyhow, I took everyone's advice and ordered the door directly from Heartland... it arrived today! I also...
Here is the phone number to Heartland: 877-262-8032
It's an automated answer and you will select the option for PARTS (I think it's 2). Make sure you have your Year, Make, Mode and if you have the part # it's even better. I just ordered a door from them and they were very helpful, but I had...
I've made the decision to do the repair myself. Once I told the dealer there was no way I was paying $5,800 for all that work I asked them to give me a quote for JUST THE DOOR. They told me the door alone was $644.00 + 50.00 shipping + 3 hours labor to install it for a total of $1144.
I got...
Since it sounds like we might be in the same area since we are both using Dixie RV, would you be able to give me the information for your mobile RV Tech guy? I would love to have that option as well and it sounds like your guy works out a lot better for you than the dealer.
Thanks
I just heard back from the Dealer and they are telling me $5,876 just for labor, doesn't even include parts! They want to replace the J wrap along with the door and say the labor alone is 35 hours. I'm going to go get my trailer and to the work myself.
What a bunch of CROOKS!
Thanks! I was raised mostly by my dad so I spent a lot of time in the garage and I'm very handy. I have more tools in my garage than a lot of men I know.. LOL! This is my first RV so I didn't even think about doing the work myself but after reading this thread I'm thinking perhaps I should...
Re: How long is "normal" to wait for a repair quote?
I love this idea thanks! I didn't even know there was such a thing as a mobile RV service tech, of course I didn't even know I could call the dealer and get the door myself. After reading Bob's comment, I called Heartland and...
Re: How long is "normal" to wait for a repair quote?
This is shocking to me.... but I guess it's confirmation that what I'm going through is normal :(
Thanks for the reply

I might just do that! Thanks
I scraped my front door pulling my trailer out of my backyard and the door will have to be replaced. I took it to the dealer 24 days ago and haven't heard anything. When I dropped it off, they said they were busy because it's camping season and it might take them a couple of weeks to get me a...
Nope can be use at any time. All of those "backup" cameras are just cameras, the only thing that makes them "backup" is that they have a wire you can hook to your backing lights power so that when you shift into reverse the camera automatically comes on just like in the built in back up cameras...
I'm going to follow this thread as I'm interested in installing a camera on the back of my TT as well. I want mine wired so that it can be on all the time when driving down the road, not just when backing up. With my rear view mirror view blocked by the trailer I like the idea of a camera on...
I bought the Prowler Lynx 285LX last month. Mine has the bunk beds in back where your 2 chairs are. I bought this model because my sister camps with me and I thought it would be nice for her to have a bed instead of using the dinette table folded down into bed. Turns out she hates the bunks...
Last week at a campground I saw a 5er with a bike rack mounted on the pin box. Found this picture on the internet, it's like the one I saw at the campground
St. George island is on my list as it's about 3 hours from my house and supposedly the most friendly place for dogs on the beach (they aren't allowed on the beach up where I am). As soon as I get my new TV that is the first place I'm going to go check out and if it's as dog friendly as everyone...
Personally I'd rather have my teeth drilled than buy anything from any of my ex's but that's just me... LOL! When you head to FL, let me know if you are planning anywhere around these parts (I'm in the panhandle on the Gulf Coast). My sister and I try to do one or two weekend trips each month.
I didn't look at the numbers for the Suburban but the Suburban and Yukon are very similar vehicles. Of course that 2500 will likely pull more than my 1500 but how much more, I really don't know. Your trailer also weighs a little more than mine so you will likely be in the same boat I am...
Thanks! Except I just went and re-checked my paperwork to make sure I had my SUV numbers listed correctly and found that my Axle Ratio is the 3.73 not the 4.10 (which I originally thought) which means my combined weight limit is 13,000... meaning I'm over by 60 pounds :(. I guess the dog and...
First you should really understand what the numbers mean, it's not all that complicated but unfortunately sometimes when you are trying to read up on it the writer goes way overboard in terms of technical writing. Let's see if I can simplify it.
GVW = Gross Vehicle Weight. This is the actual...
LOL... the first time I saw my rig all hooked up my eyes bugged out of my head a little. Even though I'd towed a 32 foot boat around before, it has been a couple of years and I'd forgotten just how long it is. With the right setup though, once you're behind the wheel it's not even an issue.
I considered that but I'm gonna get the full pad because I live at the water and the salt and humidity from wet grass between "tracks" will be bad for the undercarriage. Not to mention landing on a pad is easier than tracks and I want it to be simple to park once I get it back there.... you...
Congratulations!!! I just bought my first Travel Trailer as well. My sister and I love camping but we no longer enjoy tenting it as the FL heat and fire ants are obnoxious. So I bought a TT and we are planning on 1 to 2 weekend trips per month.
Nice to see other women out there taking the...
P.S. I looked up that trailer and it looks like it's just under 7,000 lbs. dry weight with 780 lbs. of tongue weight. You're gonna need a truck to tow that. I'm towing mine (which is only a few hundred pounds lighter) with an SUV (Yukon Denali XLT) and even though it's rated to handle it, I...
I think my first question would be... is it something you will use? If you have no interest in camping then I'd say sell it. On the other hand, if you are interested in doing some traveling and camping then I'd say buy a tow vehicle. If you're going to use it, you want to pull it yourself...
Ahh thanks for the kind words. Backing in, leveling and setting up are no big deal... pretty easy. For some reason it took us 2.5 hours to break down and be ready to roll... a good portion of that was spent emptying the toilet and flushing it all out and that was at the site so I'm a bit...
The reason I don't want to keep my sewer hose in the bumper is that it doesn't fit with the bent end fitting and I don't want to be removing it all the time; this is why I went with a plastic bucket.
I don't have a Cabela's near me but I do have a Bass Pro Shop. I'll check and see if they...
This is what I need (didn't even know there was such a thing) for the water hoses. I have the caps for the sewer drain hose and that hose is in a bucket with lid, but my 2 water hoses just dripped water all over the storage compartment. I need these caps and a separate bucket for them.
Thanks...
I guess the sooner I figure out where my sewer cleanout is at my house the better. I'm really stressing out about this as I don't want to be "that person" at the campground hogging the dump station but at the same time, I really want that black holding tank to be as clean as possible. Maybe I...
Hello all, old school camper new to RVing and I have some questions.
Here's the setup: I have a Prowler 285LX (Travel Trailer) and I plan on using it 1 to 2 times per month, year round. I live in Florida (up in the panhandle) and the trailer will be stored in my backyard when not in use...
